As far as my name…. Basically because my gardening is in response to a honey-do project requested by my wife . If you are unfamiliar with the term, it refers to whenever your spouse or significant other asks you “honey, do this”.

On one hand I have learned about machines and momentum from the first SHOCK MEMORY of hard braking resulting in me being upside down in a Cessna 195
    Screenshot_20220117-193927.png
at the Luverne AL airport (Mom? How do we get out?) (Same way we got in baby - Harsh upside down look at a sheepish Dad). Later I learned the unintended maneuver was referred to as a ground loop.

On the other hand, as a married man I have come to observe my wife having expectations of my performance in all areas of living that often exceed my experience. This was exemplified when she called me from Atlanta and told me to come get the convertible. They had hauled her out of her planned art supply convention in a wheelchair. She had planted the spring garden prior to the show and it did not register upon my context radar that I was going to be expected to grow tomatoes or anything else while she was laid up after a knee miniscus surgery. I followed all the internet advice, and promptly over fertilized. I managed to get in al lot of early crop and was feeling it, but lost the end of season crops to an overwhelming wave of fungus and bacterial and insect attack the likes of which I did not know was possible. I became focused over the following winter on how to grow a garden and how the soil could be so important if treated properly.

Somewhere in there I found my first gardening website run by some zigsters over in the UK.

So Mechanic and Dirt. Yeah. Still me even today. Pretty good discription for a garden website moniker.

In between, my Grandpa would have me take a bucket and pull nutsedge by hand on his 10 acre farm. I did not realize it was an organic form of weed control. At age 12, I did not feel like I was a plant person at all if you got down to it.

Thank you Honey-Do and that's a nice name.

My name is Daniel and people call me "Danny" for as long as I can remember...So I just chose that and the first letter of my last name. The 10 is from my birthday.

Danny, I like your reason for your username. I chose mine because while gardening is great, growing food can cause pain in the back, the knees, shoulders, hands, etc.

I am certainly an unusual person :). But it's fit me since 2000 and I've never had any trouble finding a username anywhere

Once you find the perfect user name, sticking to it is wise.
