I live in Lincoln Nebraska. Born here, and lived here all my life, except for an adventurous 6 years in Estes Park Colorado. It is not, contrary to belief, all farms and hicks here, Lincoln is a city of about 250,000 and Omaha 60 miles NE is even larger. All my family is here and we are all close. Gardening here is great, (except for the dormant Winter season!)That is a test of patience!
We love to watch and feed birds. I work for a landscaping co. as the resident master gardener/plant specialist. I love reading about all of you out there.

My husband and I, after a 12 years of marriage, decided we wanted a home in the mountains to escape the "rat race". So began a 4-year search for the perfect piece of land. We scoured real estate magazines, and trekked out with many a realtor on weekends and during school vacations. Eventually we came across a little piece of paradise in far southwestern North Carolina. We found land with both pasture and wooded mountains. One large, strong creek traverses the pastures, and 2 smaller creeks come down from the mountains to join the larger one. A few years ago, we dug out a swampy, trashy area and turned it into a gorgeous 3/4 acre pond. Every year we tackle a major project or renovation, and over the last 15 years have seen some wonderful changes. Neither my husband nor I grew up anywhere near NC, but we've always felt like we found our "home" when we first laid eyes on this place.

I was born in Illinois and spent 15 years in Chicago, where I moved when I got married. When that went south, I didn't. I went west. I went back to college after the divorce, went to Colorado to a conference, fell in love with it, and moved here after I graduated. I've lived here 21 years, and four years ago finally bought my first home. It's sunny here, and the people are friendly.

Thank you, Gardengirl, it feels idyllic. I've been trying to upload pics, but they are too large for the site. I'm experimenting with photobucket now, and once I have that mastered, I'll happily share pictures.

    Born and raised!

I actually have lived in the city where I am (almost) my whole life. I was born here, and only moved away for a couple years to attend college. I love my city. Ohio is a great state to be :)

I was raised in Houston, then moved to Tn, but after my parents health declined and they had my older brother that was head injured, I moved back on their land, making me the 5th generation to be it's steward. It was to help them more, with their care, but I have been the one that has been rewarded the greatest.

Well I was born and raised in Central IL home of the Fighting Illini, I've lived in KY, Germany and back to IL moving to Texas from northern IL.
What started out as a joke with my oldest daughter and I teasing my husband turned serious so by July 07 we were moving to Texas and have been here since.

I was born in Massachusetts, but have lived most of my life in NYS. I've lived in this town for 26 years when my husband and I purchased this house. Both my children were raised here but now we are looking for a place to retire. We chose this town because it provided the maximum commute my husband could tolerate. The area is quite pretty but has grown so much in the past 25 years and what used to be farmland is now housing developments. We'd like to find a place that is like ours was all those years ago, and are considering the Carolinas, but are open to other places. Back in the 70s, I lived in the Nashville area but really missed autumns in the NE.

Arleen, it sounds like you have exactly what I want!!!

I came to live in Oklahoma...by an unfortunate chain of events. All joking aside, we moved to OK to take care of Hubby's ailing, aging father. Add another adjective to that sentence..delusional father. After we got here he decided he didn't want us here. Anyway almost two years later, we finally have our own place again and are happy to be here. We actually moved 5 times in one year!

Two of my grown children have relocated here also and two have stayed behind. One of them may move here when he gets home from Afghanistan. I hope he does then I will have one grandchild here. :-D

I was born and raised in Kansas. Then we moved to Texas, the Dallas area because of the business of my Ex. We lived there for a few years. Then we moved to Houston, again for business reasons, lived at first in South Houston and bought later a house north of Houston, where I'm still living and I am not planning on moving once again. My new husband and me love our house and our yard. We are just happy here.

I was born in Umeå, Sweden. Grew up in Finland and Arctic Sweden. Lived in America. Married and have 2 children while in America. One serves in the military and will be released after a 4 year service in Sept. The other is raising a family in the Mobile Bay area of Alabama. My son will join me after his military service is at an end, and has a job waiting for him upon his return here. After the death of my first husband, my job took me all over the united states so we have live in a quite a few places there. I met my second husband in America while he was visiting and touring the country. Became great friends and after a year or so we married here in Norway. We have lived in his home area of Lofoten, and island in the Arctic, for most of our marriage, but now live near his parents in Tønsberg, way south of his birth home. But! one day to return. No doubt there. I have not been to my home town since i was a baby and have no plans to visit anytime soon,,lol. The Arctic is my home, and always will be. It is a special place with the nordic lights, darktime, midnight sun and wild northern seas. Rugged mountains, that stay snow capped all year long. Island chains, and each one different. Fishing villages straight out of post cards and rolling grass and moss beds that you just sink in when you lay down. Yep that is home. Snow so deep you can get lost in it, and frozen fjords for skating and ice fishing. Gardening is a challenge but the rewards is great concidering you have to take on nature itself and try to outwit her.
