Ah, toni, I understand. We've got un-studded winter tires here too, but they're only good for the plowed, salted and sanded main roads, not for our out-of-the-way roads, which are far more numerous than the other kind. :p

What a shame about the autograph. Well, one never knows.

eileen, the winter rubber soles are for keeping the snow from accumulating under the hooves. My horses never walk on stilts. :D

Yup, Sjoerd, I think we're well prepared. Even our girls are wise enough to use studs when the roads are icy. Not many girls their age would, so I'm pleased that they do. As for music I can listen to almost anything at least once. ;)

Well, CM, I've seen tractors in ditches because the road was icy with water on top, so it's better to be safe than sorry. I even saw a snow plow/sander/salter vehicle in a field, waiting for the rescue car. :D

koszta kid, I never thought of kitty litter, but of course that would work just fine. It weighs less than a sand bag too, so it would be easier to pull out and use. Thanks for that. :stew2:

Netty, we've also got those tires here, and they're nice to use on the main roads most of the time but they're no good on the side roads if the snow gets slick. Even though we pay for plowing, sanding and salting we are not top priority. Some winters we've had to drive through 30-40 cm of snow to get to work in the morning. I love my 4-wheel-drive. :smt049 It's particularly hard on the plow drivers when it snows all day and night for several days in a row. They just can't keep all roads well cleared.

Ronni, our horses are purely for joy. :D We ride the big one on trips and do a bit of dressage and jumping. The small Welsh Mountain mare was used for trips around the area and in driving competitions until we had a bad accident and couldn't get her comfortable around the cart afterwards. I usually claim they're my exercise instruments. :D

I guess you don't cheryl. I'm going to be a migratory bird when I get old(er) and I'm certain I won't miss it either. 8)

Yes koszta kid, I would too if I could, but most of the time I can't. I just have to watch out for those who can't judge the driving conditions.
