Oh Boy I'm sooooo jealous. We also love pecans. Especially my honey who loves pecan pie. I loved the "crocker sack" reference. Why did they call it that?

The only nut trees we have on our property is Black Walnuts. I guess people can use them in baking. But they do not taste as good as the English walnuts do.
I love your nut cracker. People always say---oh you have nuts. You should crack and use them. NOT!

First you need to peel off the soft outer green shell. Which stains brown whatever it comes in contact with. We have some pretty funny looking squirrels in the fall. They all have dark brown stains around their mouths from shucking Black walnuts.
Then you need a jack hammer to get threw the very hard shells. It just isn't worth the bother. But this year because of the weather we had NO Black walnuts at all. Yippy! They are a real pain to have to rake up. There are usually hundreds of them just off our one tree. The other trees are in the woods surrounding our home. Thank heavens. But if they where pecan I would be fighting the squirrels for them.
