Been there done that a long time ago.I once got a notice to serve on the grand jury held 35 miles away. I had one heck of a time getting out of it.I tried to explain that my husband was recuperating from serious accident & that it was out of the question for me to drive there.Well couldn't I get a relative or neighbor to drive me?No,I really couldn't.Or get this,I could get a hotel room & stay in that town as long as necessary.I finally wrote a long letter & must have convinced them I wasn't a good candidate because I got a permanent excuse. This was a nightmare!

When the list of potential jurors in a town is a short one, they really hate to have to dismiss someone for any reason.

I got a jury notice a few weeks ago. I guess our city is very different. I received a postcard with a group number and a phone number with instructions to call every day for a week after 5pm and listen for my group number. If it was called, we had to show up the next day at 8am. Luckily, my number was never on the list, so I didnt have to go :)

A few years ago, while my bf was working for Home Depot, he was summoned, but Home Depot refused to give him the day off and said he would be written up if he didnt show up for work! Which is illegal! But he went to work anyway, and a few days later, some cops showed up at his house and hauled him to jail to spend a few nights -_- This was before we started dating o_O
