Lovely decorations Ronni and Donna. So far we only have an Advent Calendar hung and the first few Christmas cards that have arrived. We might get the tree down from the attic at the week-end or not depending if we get round to it...Some years it gets to Christmas Eve before it gets done.I enjoy seeing the end results but have to wait for Mark to be around to do the lifting and shifting so spontaneity has to give. Until then I'll enjoy everyone else's efforts!
Love your pics, Donna! The basket story is so heartwarming. On a similar note (though not Christmas themed) is I have a picture of two of my boys when they were under two, each with a set of colored blocks on laces around their necks. Looped over that picture is the same set of blocks. The kids are in their 30's now. I like the tricycle centerpiece too. I also like the runner under it! And the green one under the music box....and you MADE that???? I'm impressed! I have a collection of music boxes on my coffee table, but I certainly can't say I made any of those!! I laughed too, because in that second to last picture, you have an ornamental basket of some kind on that class table? And a red bow on the handle? I have those exact same bows in a variety of colors that I use for all sorts of things. Currently a couple of them are gracing the necks of the iron geese that sit on the front porch. And when I get to decorating the mail box there will probably be a couple more there too.
Hi Eileen,..one of my sons went to the Mackintosh College in Glasgow,..i paid a flying visit there and liked it,..then when on holiday in Donegal,..Ireland,.. i met two women from Glasgow,..Scotland,.. and we became friends for a few years,..i would rent a house in Donegal for two weeks and they would visit for a week,..they were good times had by all,..i did drive over a few times to see them and managed a trip to Edinburgh to see the Military Tattoo,..that was awesome. Scotland is on the top of my list,..this time away from the city life,..however,..i have to get a good pet sitter since i lost my regular one,..Molly would be fine with anyone who would look after her,..but the cats need someone to stay in the house with them,..they all have their own personalities,..and demands,.. ,..but yes Eileen you will hear an Irish Brogue in the not too distant future but not until the new year,..
After seeing Ronni's and Donna's decorations, I got inspired: Christmas 2013 ( photo / image / picture from marlingardener's Garden ) This is the outside, with candles in the window and garland and bows on the fence. The mantle, decorated for Christmas ( photo / image / picture from marlingardener's Garden ) We decorate the mantle with a swag and bow, and put our Santa collection out. 2013 Christmas tree ( photo / image / picture from marlingardener's Garden ) The Christmas tree is the centerpiece of our decorating--we have ornaments from our families, and ones we have collected over the years. Christmas Cat ( photo / image / picture from marlingardener's Garden ) And of course, the most ornamental thing of all is under the tree, napping. Feliz came to us on Christmas Day as a stray kitten wandering down the alley, and has been the best Christmas present we ever received!
VERY nice Jane! Edited to add these photos: My tree and nativity will always pretty much be the same, so here's an earlier photo of them decorations complete ( photo / image / picture from cherylad's Garden ) But to show you something just a little different. My Harley Davidson Christmas stuff which I've had at least the 1990s. A music box. Harley Music Box ( photo / image / picture from cherylad's Garden ) Harley Stocking Holder ( photo / image / picture from cherylad's Garden ) And these 3 ornaments that are too big for the tree, so they usually just sit on a shelf. Seeing your Harley shots reminded me of something we saw last week on our way home from town.We could see a road blocked off by a police motorcyclist which in itself is quite unusual but then we saw the reason as about 100 other motorcyclists rode past us-some dressed as Santa and others in different costumes. Many of the bikes had parcels and packages on board so we can only assume that they were on their way to make some Children's days ,perhaps at our local hospital.
Cheryl, I like your decorations! I wish our windows lent themselves to the garland and lights that you have, but they don't :frown: . Kiasmum, the motorcycle club from a nearby city does a "Santa Run" every year. They dress as Santas, and riders are dressed as elves. They have presents in the sidecars, and even a pick-up truck or two with extra presents. They roar up to a local food pantry and distribute gifts and give rides in the sidecars. Noting like seeing a big, burly, bearded man with tattoos lifting a six-year-old into a side car and circling the parking lot. Now THAT'S the spirit of Christmas!
They were probably on a "Toy Run". Back in my Harley riding days in Albuquerque, the group I was in always participated in the Marine's Toys for Tots drive. There would be thousands of motorcyclists participating.. and not just Harleys - it was for everyone. The line would stretch for miles. The toys and food would fill several semi-trucks. And then we were rewarded with a big party that took up several blocks downtown. Lots of fun for a most worthy cause. The only other Harley Christmas decorations I have is my collection of ornaments/balls. I started collecting them the first Christmas I had my motorcycle. They used to go on the tree, but after one got broken (and it cost a bunch to replace) I now just put the most recent on one a shelf until after Christmas and then it goes in the box. First one 1987 ( photo / image / picture from cherylad's Garden ) 1987 ( photo / image / picture from cherylad's Garden ) And this year's. 2013 ( photo / image / picture from cherylad's Garden ) 2013 ( photo / image / picture from cherylad's Garden ) I don't know how many more I'll be getting. The quality seems to be going down faster than the price is going up. And they are getting smaller. Plus... all of the previous one's were purchased from the same shop in Albuquerque. This year it came from some headquarters somewhere. Kinda ruined my "thing".
This reminds me so much of my friend Ken. He's the quintessential biker, he's huge, bearded, tattooed, looks really scary and is the biggest teddy bear with the kindest heart you'd ever hope to meet. He's part of a program that buddies up with abused kids and helps them through the tough times. One of "his" kids who just adores Ken says that Ken is scarier than the kid's abuser, and that makes the kid feel safe.
I bet your friend Ken is a wonderful person! I have learned to not judge folks by their beards, tattoos, or other outward signs. If their hearts are golden, it shines through.
