Yep I was out of bread flour too. Was good flavor but did not rise well. Don`t feed it to the chickens. It makes great French Toast. I cook up a bunch and layer it between wax paper and bag it and freeze it. Quick breakfast for those "get out of the house quick" days or school day breakfast for the kids.
Great idea for using the bread, but this had no elasticity to the dough(it was really bad). maybe that's what makes pastry flour make such nice pie dough, though. Not much or no gluten.
Nice recipe cindjo! I was wondering whether your recipe could be appled and used in a bread making machine? I recently got one as a present, and I'm keen to give it a work-out. I don't see why more exotic recipes like yours shouldn't work. But of course there will be those who say that using a machine is cheating! Well, why do people use lawnmowers when you could cut the grass with sissors is what i say!
Hi Colin, if you reduce the recipe for 1 loaf, I don't see why not and I know the yeast for bread machines is "different" , but, I think, I have used regular yeast in mine....A very LONG time ago. 1 loaf recipes are just not enough for my family. Give it a try anyhow and let us know how it turned out. And Do use bread flour, it has a higher gluten content and makes much nicer dough.
Oops! Here's my bread maker thought it might be helpful if I showed what bread making machine I've got in case abyone has experience of using it! The instructions look simple.. but I've had trouble in the past with another breadmaker! The results were inedible! Hoping this one will work! moderator's note: removed website link, see point 1.1 of usage rules
