Those are lovely kuntrygal, and Sjoerd, your raggy marigold is very unusual. Do you know the variety? ZZP, I am glad to see I am not the only one who can't grow marigolds.
WHEW! 8) *LOL* Sharon, I was really starting to think I was the only Marigold murderer. I can select the most gorgeous pot of Marigolds at the nursery, take 'em home, plant them in a pot of the best potting soil, feed them, water them, flatter them . . . and they will instantly stop growing.
Beautiful pics. I LOVE marigolds, even their smell. They always do great even in drought. They are the first flower I grew from seed as a child.
Sherry 'n CajunB, I am sorry, but I cannot fiond the name of that variety in my seed boxes. What I DID find were some savced seeds. I shall plant some this spring and if there is success...that is to say, that they are pure and not cross-breeds, I will be delighted to send you some seeds. I can't find them in any of my catalogues either. I had no idea that they were so difficult to find.
zu zu...I think it is harder to grow things in pots than in the ground. My marigolds in pots usually don't make it as long as the ones in the ground. My potting soil Miracle Grow dries out so much that I am going to look for Pro Mix this season..Mine start out so thick and beautiful in the pots and then they get leggy and all of the underparts loose there leaves...so it is not only you...try planting some in the ground...
Thanks for that insight, Sherry. Our "soil" is just about 100% sand here, so I had always thought potting them would be better, but I definitely think your suggestion is worth a try!!
No luck throughout the growing season with mine. They start off strong and then die. I love the pics of them posted.
