Our volunteer cantaloupes probably won't ripen before frost.
    They're nowhere near big enough.

Sorry, I haven't been online much lately.

Mart, the cantaloupe are larger than a baseball, but smaller than a football.
    I think two may ripen.

If your frosts are not too bad,,and no hard freeze,, just throw something over the top at night and remove in the daytime. Cantaloupe will ripen after picking,, just let them stay on the vine as long as possible for best taste .

Trouble with covering is this. The vine grew up a tree, hooked over a fence and hangs down, but too far off the soil for covering. If frost threatens, we probably will cut them off the vine and allow them to ripen inside.

Oh ! Could be a problem then. I go to the thrift store and buy old sheets to use to cover anything that needs a little more time. But that rarely happens in the fall. Its usually spring and the late frosts I worry about. But still do the same thing. If frost gets the leaves they will recover in springtime. If it happens in the fall, the vine will usually be fine for a while. Leaves or no leaves make no difference for a short time in the fall.
