Hoi Philip. Mate, what an envious collection of blooming plants you have there. I have to say though that your hosta's are pristine. Yep--I'm green with envy.

Hi Sjoerd,..lol at green with envy over hosta's,..just as in your case and the same with Eileen hosta's are attacked by slugs in my garden,..its a battle to keep them at bay,..so liquid slug killer and copper bands around containers manage the job,..otherwise a plant can be scoffed in a matter of three days.

I am using beer in yoghurt containers at the moment. I catch quite a few that way. the thrushes and blackbirds catch some, but not enough. Interestingly enough--sometimes when I set a mouse trap with peanut butter, I catch a big red slug in the trap. I had never heard of that before.
Well, any way that you look at it--your hosta's look really good. --Chapeau.

Sjoerd,..i tried just about everything to get rid of slugs and snails,..i also have to consider my Hedgehogs health and only use liquid slug killer,..within containers,..as snails and slugs that died might be eaten by the Hedgehogs,.. most things work to a degree but those small snails,..the small thumb nail size,..are difficult to keep at bay.

Lol at the mouse trap and peanut butter catching those big red slugs,..the latter i don't have,..never came across them doing this,..big slugs indeed.

It took 20 days after the damage was done,..then the truck and JCB arrived,..it was the last bush on the left before the gate,..that was to be pruned,..not mine which was the last bush on the right,..anyway i made them take everything away roots of everything then add top soil.

So far nobody i have taken to see these plants either in the wild or in my garden can put a name to them,..here in the Stew it was suggested some time of Aster,..yep its my opinion as well,..i will keep trying for a name,..the only surprise was i found some more growing a few mile up river,..maybe its where the ones i found had drifted down from,..they are shown below.

Those wild asters have really taken off in your garden Philip. I can't tell you exactly which type they are as there are over 180 species of asters but they sure are very pretty.:)

Sjoerd,..most people around where i live didn't think it was such a big deal,..a bush is a bush kind of comment,..it took 13 years for the Spotted Laurel to reach six foot,..i stuck two Variegated Wallflowers in place but will add some Cape Fuchsia as they will grow fast enough and are evergreen.

Eileen they give off a nice display at this time of year with such a big splash of white,..strange thing about both locations where they grow along the river is that they bloom and fade just before the river rises to cover them each year,..talk about timing.

Very true about the vast amount of Asters,..trying to place a name is nigh impossible.

In bloom all summer and still going strong is Erysimum 'Bowles Mauve'.

At the end of my garden there is a wall,..then a big drop between that and another very high wall,..i tend to dump my weeds over that wall and among the weeds there was a piece of Sweet Alyssum,..it took off very well,..i hope it grows all along the top of that wall.

Its so easy to grow,..i had another piece and just stuck it in a container,..hung it on the gate.

This Dahlia 'Scarlet/Yellow',..i decided to overwinter in the greenhouse plus i took some cuttings which have taken root,..fingers crossed for next season,..the blooms tend to get more yellow as winter approaches.
