A boat trip to Carberry Island on Lough Ree,..stopping on the way to exercise the dogs with a climb up to the Famine Cross. ( photo / image / picture from Philip Nulty's Garden )
Philip... that is totally unfair!!! All the lush greenery... and water!!! Don't mind me... I'm just jealous!
Very unfair!,..lol,..strange as it may sound but i am so used to all the green i forget its there,..as for the water,..i live for it,..at the drop of a hat,..weather permitting,.. i head off either on the river or lake,..i seldom can get someone to come with me,..they don't have time?.
Thanks Calin, these days when i make a trip i keep in mind those of you who appreciate seeing what i see.
Rindoon Castle is on the shores of Lough Ree,..about 10 mile north of my location,..the castle is in ruin of course,..it was a Royal Castle,..an Anglo Norman one,..and erected in 1227. Rindoon Castle-Video ( photo / image / picture from Philip Nulty's Garden )
Bravo! Bravo! I'm just astounded at the places you have right at your fingertips. And at your ability to share them so beautifully. That closing shot is absolutely perfect! Did I say Bravo yet?
Hi Cheryl, i get the impression you liked that little photo story!,..thank you!,..its not the nearest castle to where i live,..King John's Castle is within hailing distance,..only about 200 yards from my front door,..closed at the moment,..making improvements!. Jerry, that cross!,..the famine cross!,..i use it as a landmark when far up the lake. Your ancestors left here during the famine years,..which was 1845-1848,..not many people know this but in 1847 the Choctaw Indians donated $700 to help during the famine,..they were an impoverished people at the time,..but they reached out. Oh in Rindoon Castle they found two hand bells and a bronze Crucifixian Plaque,..now called the Cross of Athlone,..here is what the cross looked like,..its 8th century,..seems there was a church there in 1156. Hi Jerry, glad you are enjoying my travels,..yes the village really takes pride in itself,..all those white painted premises and flowers at every door,..a sight to see.
