Did some gardening in the front garden last week, forgot to take photo's, silly me! I'll take some when the weather picks up, right now it's very changeable, rather cold, so no gardening for a while. That's why I spent today doing some sanding and preparing a wall for wallpaper.
And as of today I have yet another reason for wanting to move as soon as possible: this morning I saw a black RAT in the garden of my present house. Scared me something silly!
Some of you may remember me mentioning the anti-social family that moved in a couple of doors away. Their back yard looks like a complete rubbish tip, and they also let all (at least 3) of their dogs do their business there. So my guess is that they kind of "invited" the rats in. I've known these houses since they were built, and there were NEVER any rats in the past.
Very scary, because in one year a couple of rats can easily become over 100, and they are very hard to get rid of.
You can imagine how lucky I feel to be able to leave this place before the rat-population explodes! :smt041

Okay, I'll forgive you for forgetting to take pictures of the front garden. However, we do expect photos as soon as possible!:)
Glad you are getting out of the neighborhood with the less than desirable family. We lived with messy people next door when we lived in town. We, too, moved as quickly as possible!

I'm so glad you're leaving before those rats really begin to over populate the area. Those neighbours of yours need to get their act together before the whole area is infested.

Okay, as promised, here's the "after" picture of the front garden. All nice & tidy, although the picture is a bit grainy. Taken with my smartphone & shaky hands.
You'll need to scroll back a bit in this thread to see the "before" picture :) 20150322_073330.jpg

Well that's a real improvement but must have been an awful lot of back breaking work. The front garden actually looks much bigger after the effort you've put into it.

Wow! Amazing difference. What is growing in the center square beds, hydrangea? What other plants are you considering putting in there?

It's so fortunate that you have another place to go to. I can not live with mice much less rats! Nasty things. I hope you have your new house ready soon. The front garden looks so much nicer than the first picture. I'm sure your looking forward to being in you new home and working in your yard.

Thanks everyone! It all polished up nicely. The two beds are both filled with hydrangeas, but as the ones closest to the window were in rather a sorry state, I decided to prune them right back. Eventually they'll have to go, because however pretty, they are just not quite my style. There may be roses there at some point in the future, as this side of the house catches most of the sunshine (despite the huge limetrees). Also, I'm thinking of a little pergola on the left side, so the wisteria (which is right next to the front door, but completely cut down to the ground) can grow over it.
In the long narrow borders along the garden path, there are what I think are geraniums. They need a lot of good garden compost, then I think they'll be fine. Lots of plans, now we wait for some good weather to execute them :)

I had a problem like you in my old neighbourhood and we are so happy to be out of there. They are real filthy people and I cannot understand why they want to keep a dog when they just kept it locked in a small cage 24/7 :smt013.

You garden is coming up pretty and I'm sure it is going to be beautiful when the blooming starts.
    Well done!:setf_016:
