Glad he isn't too much of a digger, mine is still a sniffer, she just got skunked again... same story. door didn't latch, blew in, and out she went... only to get sprayed. right in the mouth. must have been close as there is no smell on her anywhere except the muzzle.

Oh my gosh Carolyn! That exact thing happened to my last dog ... we were walking along (she was leashed) and a skunk ran in front of us as we passed... dog grabbed it by the tail and got sprayed right in the mouth!! Since it was only a 6 ft leash, I got it too! Worst. Stink. EVER.

:)I have a question about ears on this type of dog...why do some ears stand up and others have floppy? I have wondered about this in papions too...do they normally stand up or do they need help like what they do to Dobermans? Personally I Iike both types of ears...but just never knew the answer to why some stand up. I understand if they breed with another dog that can happen. I have had different dogs through the years, some with floppy ears and some that stand up erect.

oh horrors Netty! peroxide dawn and baking soda lather and let set about 20 minutes if possible. really works well. so disgusting! you poor thing.

Sherry... genetics. some stand better than others. our gsd was the last in a litter of 11 puppies and she had a floppy ear so no one wanted her. we picked her up for next to nothing. they offered her to me for free but I couldn't do that either so I made a donation to them for her.

Silly people Carolyn...not wanting a puppy because of floppy ears. Maggie had one that didn't stand up straight when we first got her but now it is erect...
....I have never had a dog or myself get sprayed...I am hoping I never will...

I agree Sherry. this is absolutely the nicest dog I have ever seen. I had company a few weeks ago. my son invited them for a weekend Church group activity and he came a night earlier than we thought he was going to get here. My son misread the text. We woke up on Sat morning and I was putzing around... blowing my nose as I was getting over a cold, bed-raggled of course, in my bathrobe, the house was a mess since we were working on putting up one of the small hightunnels we took down, counters were messy, the floors hadn't been swept dirty dishes in the sink... I had all day to get it done. there he was in the livingroom sleeping on the couch. found an unlocked door and came in. the dog never made a peep. he greeted her and went to bed. we laughed and laughed. what a watch dog. I have always said she would hold the door for a robber and invite them back in for more.

Netty, you certainly don't spoil that pup! Just wait until some of his rowdy friends show up for a pool party--someone might call the police on your "police dog."
Sargent is beautiful, happy, and probably a handful, and worth every bit of the time you have put into him.
    Happy Birthday, Sargent!

    Happy Birthday Sarge!
Netty what a great idea. Maya LOVES running water (the garden hose could keep her busy for a long while)... I wonder if she would like a kiddy pool? she does not like the bathtub but endures it.

Oh my, look at the size of Sargent already. Looking back at the first post it's quite a startling change. Happy birthday Sargent! :stew2:

After the past 4 days of rain, Sargent has discovered the lake on the front lawn. He takes every advantage on our walks to run around through the water. He LOVES it!

He loves his pool too, but I think he may have already put a hole in it. Hubby thinks he can fix it.

Sargent loves his pool, and the poor pool has already been repaired 3 times! He loves the water.
I have also come to discover that Sargent just loves to 'help' me when I'm working in the garden. He drops in ball in the plants, gets in the way, steals my tools, steps on my plants, knocks over the weed bucket and runs away with the weeds. Working in the garden with him is like trying to brush your teeth while eating Oreos ... it just doesn't work!!
