Kay and razyrsharpe, If you want to keep deer or rabbits, groundhogs, squirrels, chipmunks, possums, woodchucks or cats away go get a plastic container of Shake-Away granules by . Use it sparingly and try not to smell it. It really really works. It is about 15 dollars and well worth is. I use it all around my property as I used to be plagued with all those little critters, and big. Not any more. I also spent a fortune on mothball crystals and dried blood and fox urine. Now, I know this has some kind of urine in it but I am not going to smell it again to find out what it is. Go to Shake-away.com and see what it says.
Barb--I am so frustrated with the bunny that is plaguing my garden! I will try this Shake Away & see if it helps.
Cayuga Morning, Just don't open it and take a good whiff. You will die....... Also they have 3 kinds. One for deer, one for little critters and one for cats. I'll bet they are interchangeable.
One problem here is the Cabbage Moth. I picked all the eggs off the Broccoli, Cauliflower, Brussel Sprouts yesterday and today, three Cabbage Moths were busily laying their eggs again. I know Cheesecloth is supposed to keep them away. Where can I get some cheap?
Got my first multiple veggie harvest for the season. Snowpeas, Prince Albert Peas, purple hulled cowpeas (in the green stage) Kentucky Wonder green beans, yellow crookneck squash and zucchini squash... ( photo / image / picture from razyrsharpe's Garden )
@Growingpains... no peanut shell mulch, just leaf litter (mainly oak leaf and dogwood) and pine straw.
stratsmom, i too love the idea that i am planting and harvesting items our forefathers did way back in the day! my mother used to go to monticello and bring back tree seedlings etc. (which are still growing in our yards) and this was a cool idea to me. when i found out that they also sold vegetable seeds i bought all i could... have you seen the veggie garden at Monticello? it is awesome!
@waretrop... what is Shake-away? is it a repellant? chemical? fertilizer? where would i find it? i am thinking about using a hotpepper solution to make the veggies taste horrible to the critters.
razysharpe, If I wasn't so glad for you, I would be jealous. Some fine vegetables you're growing. I'm also so glad to know you're keeping old timey seeds alive.
take a virtual stroll through Monticello's veggie and fruit gardens... http://www.monticello.org/site/house-an ... ble-garden
