LOL -he is as socially dysfunctional as I am, I know what he means but it can still irritate.

Today, I got on the treadmill to see how long it would take me to do a 5K without killing myself. I did it in 67 minutes... lol. I told DH he will have time for a few glasses of wine by the time he needs to meet me at the finish line.

It's my first and my goal is only to finish. I wish I had this mind when I was young, I wouldn't have worried so much about what others think! :)

Err .... Ladies I totally agree with all of you. I go to a government clinic for cholestrol treatment and we do not get to see the same doctor most of the time. I had told different doctors both male and female that I do gardening as part of my physical activities but they all said that is not enough because it is light work. I guess most of them had lost the use of their common sense and is only able to repeat from the same book they read!

Folks, remember that 49% of all doctors graduated in the bottom half of their class. Don't expect too much from them. :)

I had to water the tomatoes, cucumbers and peppers yesterday....across the road. No water over there, so the 5 gallon buckets and little red wagon came in pretty handy I only needed 100 gallons to do it. That was about 1 gallon of water per plant. Nope, not too much work. Oh, yeah and we planted the pumpkins 300 ft. from the road, the water had to go all the way there in buckets and no little red wagon, that would have sloshed it all out. I am thankful it was more downhill than uphill to there. And I did stretch the garden hose all the way out and managed to get 100' down the lawn. How did the pioneers get there watering done? I was thinking about that last night as I was watering, uhgggg. it was a lot of walking. my feet were getting tired by dark. Then the mosquiotes came out and I finally quit. now I need to go plant my neighbors day lillies. Nope not much work. See ya all again at dark, probably. Bye!

Hey hey now..i have a upcoming doctor in the family...she no longer thinks that gardening is for the birds cuz now she's the one who actually gets out there before the crack of day and sweats like crazy. She said that she would rather be doing that than running on a treadmill to relieve her medschool studies..who would have thunk it

    MarlinG, you are so funny!

KK, I worked in cancer labs at a few medical schools and med students, according to one boss, were there to memorize a library's worth of knowledge, study overviews of courses like immunology. I was often asked to teach a course: gram positive and negative staining. But, because the class wasn't required, no one showed up. The doctor's learn more later when they choose a specialty and their memory-trained brains can ingest another library of data. It's not an easy haul! In fact, it's so tough that the doctors who chose family practice rarely continue their education beyond a seminar at a ski resort conference in Snow Valley. Many rely on pharmaceutical reps to show them what's new.

Don't get me wrong, I don't hate Doctors, I do hate the way they are educated. I majored in molecular immunology and I am amazed at the crap doctors tell me. I had four years of one topic and 15 years of research but I am often smiled at and informed that I'm a smart 'girl'!

Carolyn, ouch! I told my tomatoes, only the strong and drought resistant will survive -but now that I am into canning that will change!

Hummerbum: Congratulations! we need more women in medicine and she sounds like she has her head on straight! She won't poo hoo her patients! If she can swing it she should try a MD/PhD -it's a 1-2 yr lab break in the middle or after med school (no cost, paid a pathetic stipend) We are woefully lacking in MD/PhDs and they are the decision makers! One of my PhD friends at NIH sits on a review board that determines who gets funding. She said if it's between prostate or breast cancer and she is the only female in the room full of male doctors over 70 years old, guess which way the vote swings? LOL and as she says, who can blame them?

Koszta, yikes, be careful LOL My first husband was a farmer in PA and he taught me a valuable trick: run cold water from the hose over the insides of your elbows, where all those veins are. It gently and quickly cools you down fast! I do this all the time. When I did meals on wheels I showed a 99yr old woman how to put cold cans of coke in the crook of her arms -the poor thing was sitting in a 100º house in front of a fan! She loved it!

Okay, I actually must get on a treadmill now... not because of the doctor but I asked DH to run 4 5Ks with me this year. They are runs through local wineries and you get to have a taste after! LOL and I will not be breaking any records, currently my best time is 58 minutes... DH's is 33 minutes, so he's probably have several tastes by the time I roll in. Oh and it will be 100º Saturday woo hoo!

But lot of ER working too many hours. Doc I clean for 14 hours a day for past 9 days. Wonder why she is moving to more normal hour Aug 1st at prison. And when Dr I go found out she was my best friend. WOW what an inspiration your grandmother was!. Mine broke her hip at 88, crawled into bed and refused to do physical therapy, said she'd done enough and it hurt! LOL She lived six more years but I wonder if she had not given up. On looking back, I see remember all she did and it was a lot! But it never seemed like much to us at the time! Now I brag about stuff she did routinely at my age... thanks for the reminder! Koszta, I am so glad you have a doc to listen to you, it's so important!
