Hi Luke, its a tree that i really didn't take a lot of notice about,..until of course this time of year when its really eye catching as nearly everything else is just green this side of the pond,..next move is to try pinpoint the species,..though i am already thinking "Mahonia japonica",..like you suggested,..if you pinpoint it before me do let me know.
