Thanks Philip. I've posted your pics to Duncan. Once he's finished repairing the damage done by our gales he's going to have a look at them and your links. :-D
Hi Eileen, i had you in mind today as the gale blew around my house like an express train,..close to 100 mph,..only lost some blooms,..but no damage to the plants,..so you had damage!,..nothing serious i hope?.
Thanks Jerry, i think i put a spell on you!,..next visit on the lake i show is an old Castle,..i think you will like it,..still deciding should it be a slide show,..pictures or a photo story with music,..decisions,..decisions, .
You know Philip, with all your wealth of knowledge, be it history, animals or Hare Island; you could write a great mystery novel! Perhaps from one of your beloved pooch's perspective. Let us know when you finnish the book, bet it would be a big seller. So many great writers on The Stew. Your pics were very intriguing.
Thank you!,..lol but i have forgotten quite a lot,..well at my age its expected,..but i feel like i have had several lifetimes,..and enjoyed all of them.
When i climbed up the hill,..had a friend take some pictures of me standing at the Famine Cross. ( photo / image / picture from Philip Nulty's Garden ) This is how far up the hill we went,..no cover between the cross and the shore where i left the boat. ( photo / image / picture from Philip Nulty's Garden ) There was a lovely BIG cow behind the Cross,..seeing she was there i decided to take advantage and get a few pictures. ( photo / image / picture from Philip Nulty's Garden ) Lovely creature,..nice eyes!,..then the penny dropped,..on its own,..big creature!!,..yes you guessed it,..not a cow,..we slowly walked downhill,..hearts in mouth,..but no problem. I am ROLLING here. last night when I looked at that "cow" I saw the look in it's eye and said to Kevin, "Now that looks like it's not a really happy cow." Well that would explain it. HUH? You were getting the "hairy eyeball" look as we would say here. Glad you made it back out of there okay. These "cows" make the best watch dogs. You just need a lot of fence and pasture. Everyone is afraid of them.
I am sure Kevin got a laugh!,..it never dawned on us that it wasn't a Cow,..but of course we had got to the top of the hill then spotted the beast behind the cross,..had we noticed it before setting out,..well we would have known, .
what am i missing? if that's not a cow, what is it? wonderful thread philip and awesome pics! i love the tub! oh, and what's the syory behind the 'Famine Cross'?
The Famine Cross was erected in memory of the million or more people who died,(starved),..during the Great Famine,..sometimes referred to as the Potato Famine,..however there was a lot more to it than that,..basically it was a mix of the potato blight,..and the fact nearly all the population had to grow crops for landlords who had invaded this country and only allowed people to live on the land provided they grew crops for them,..see the link below. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Great_Famine_(Ireland) On a lighter side!,...em,.. that beast is not a Cow its the "udder",lol.
