Well, I think I dispensed with the big fellow and have not seen him for about 4 days. BUT, the camera picked up another smaller rat 2 nights ago and this one is not touching the bait so I have moved it nearer to his/or her route. Have not yet found any possible entry point so the search goes on.....

    Kate, that's awful.
I also hope that you are well rid of those pests now. Fingers crossed.

@Raddang - another one? Wow - that means they're definitely getting in from the outside somewhere. Hopefully you can find the spot and get it stopped up.

My camera also caught photos of a rat under the bird feeding station. I moved the bird feeder, but then had trouble with rats in my composter. This was taken care of easily by putting a baited rat trap inside the composter. I caught 3 and haven't had a problem since. Rats gross me right out, vermin that needs taking care of immediately!

Well Rad--I can tell you that rats are so very smart. If they know that one of their comrades died from the poison, you may have to use one of those big rat traps. If that works, you will probably only catch one with it, because then they will know and then you must think up another approach.

The good thing is that the rats that you saw last are small and thus young. They may be easier to catch than the older wily ones.

    it was IL, terrible.
I just had a wet room installed, most had wet room, some kept their bath. I was terrified all that drilling would disturb the rats that may have still been there.
It was really noisy, I had the lounge door shut, the workers had the bathroom door shut yet I could only sit with fingers in both ears. Next door could'nt stand it, the other way she said her cats were terrified..thank God its over and no night noise from rats.
    Thanks!
    K

Three days and three nights now with no sign of 'Ratty' in the loft. Hopefully he has moved on or the bait did its job. We have stopped putting scraps out for the foxes (for over a month now) to encourage them to hunt for themselves. We have treated them well in the past like this:

Hopefully you've seen the last of "Ratty" and his getting in was only luck of the draw and now that he is gone you won't see any more of him or his friends & relatives.

Well, 5 days and nights have now passed with not one sight or sound of Mr Ratty, my neighbour reports the same. SO, perhaps we have now sent them to the sewers in the sky...........

Cool! Your episode with a rat has given me pause to wonder IF there are any lurking about here that I haven't seen or discovered yet. Been thinking to buy some of that real sticky paper (don't want to have to pry a rat out of the jaws of a trap NOR do I want to find long forgotten set trap with my fingers either!) and put it down just as a precaution into the future.
