I complain about our Scottish weather - never again!! Thankfully no one died and cars can be replaced.
Flash flooding in all the low level areas of the city. This is what climate change looks like... Damage to property and vehicles cannot be estimated correctly right now. As the full extent of the disaster still isn't known - Reports still coming in.
Despite whatever has happened, people of Karachi still haven't lost our sense of humor! This below is another video of a guy who is in neck deep water. He is holding a picture of the chief minister - And trying to register his complaint!
Here is what the ocean looked like just before the storm moved in. And this is how everything became like as the storm front moved in. Because of the very low air pressure, waves of the ocean started moving in slow motion, that they almost looked like the entire ocean became still. This prompted some ultra religious (and borderline crazy) people to assume that the "end time" had finally arrived... How the authorities quickly put them in their proper place was another very funny sight, but unfortunately, I can't find a video of that anywhere.
I honestly don't know how to explain this... But a few days since that monster storm passed - Here comes another! https://www.aviationweather.gov/data/obs/sat/intl/sat_ircol_d.jpg Still, I'm never going to complain about the rain, (I actually enjoy thunderstorms). I am just concerned about climate change - So many members over here have known me for almost a decade now. And all this time, I was mostly complaining about never getting enough rain. However, what's really bothering me a lot. Is that what if my area now getting extra rain - Means that some other area might not be getting their fair share anymore? I honestly don't ever want anything to happen to the rainforests of the world. Like those in Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, and Burma...
wow S-H! thart is an enormous amount of water. stay safe. we also had a huge storm roll through the mid west of your country this past week. millions of acres of corn and farm crops along with the farms destroyed from the 100 mph wind that lasted for 800 miles. it is horrific to see the destruction caused by the wind.
I swear, this just isn't how the weather use to behave when I was a kid... Each year after 1988, things kept getting hotter and hotter every summer. And droughts started lasting for 5 to 7 years in this coastal area of the provence. We use to have very hot summers in the early 80s too. But they were different... It was like, boiling hot in the sun - But get under any shade, and it was cool. Now no matter where you go, you will today always be sweltering 24/7. Before heatwaves use to last for 10 days to 2 weeks at the most. After which, some rain would follow. But from during the mid 80s to the entire 2000s - Several years (of merciless heat) would go by without a drop of rain. Today I keep seeing air-conditioners installed in homes explode! Yes, explode... And dashboards of cars melting. However this is the second year in a row. Where we are not getting torrential rain of such a heavy about. That it's causing flooding in the urban areas... Like I keep saying, this just isn't the same weather I remember in my early childhood.
Yesterday Karachi city experienced yet another major downpour. And so once more there was urban flooding. However this time there is a new twist to it. Because now there are crocodiles spotted in some areas of the city, (believe it or not)! How exactly did this happen??? Well, there is an 800 year old crocodile sanctuary at the edge of the city. Which was established by a Sufi saint. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pir_Mangho Anyhow, this old shrine and the crocodile sanctuary alongside it got overrun with floodwaters because of the extra heavy monsoon downpour yesterday. So now we have crocodiles roaming about freely in the streets of Karachi! Who knows, maybe this will become another tourist attraction! I keep saying, Karachi is literally a unique place, unlike any other in the entire world. However not everybody believed me - Well, seeing is believing! These videos below will now show you how these crocodiles lived in their sanctuary next to the shrine... However now they are out in the city. And since a lot of streets are now knee to waist deep under water. These creatures are having the time of their lives!
More pictures from day before yesterday's heavy monsoon downpour. Army has moved in for rescue and food distribution, (as elected civilian government proved themselves to be perpetually useless yet again)! 36 year old record of rainfall has been broken. And for the month of August, that s is the highest ever recorded downpour. According to the records which have been kept since 1931, (when Karachi meteorological department was set up).
Ladies and gentlemen, here is today's forecast! I can already hear the rumbling of thunder - So here we go again...
Heaviest rainfall recorded in 90 years! Perhaps even more, but the records go only as far back as 90 years... So true to my earlier production, this indeed did turn out to be a once in a century storm. Majority of the city is now without electricity and mobile phone service too is down. Military rescuing people in some areas by boat and helicopter - While delivering food in other areas, as roads are now completely submerged, (so regular supplies can't arrive).
