I am not sure who made it. I think it was a subsidiary of one of the big companys like GE or Frigidaire. They used to make cheaper models, but would put a different name on them. But they were around when I was a kid, because I can remember them being advertised on tv. But I don't think they are around anymore.
Norge appliances was a side business of the American based Borg-Warner company, they have made transmissions, drive trains, etc for the automotive industry since early last century. It sounds like the Norge name might possibly have come from where the Borg or Warner family came from when they migrated here...family history sort of thing. They eventually sold the company to Maytag and the quality of the products went down hill from that point on. You can find some repair parts online but the Norge name no longer exists except on vintage appliances.
I had to look it up -- here is the link. http://www.rekitchen.com/refrigerator/brands/norge.html When I was a kid, we had a Norge dishwasher and we used to call it "Norge" as if it had a name. Also, not to get too off-topic, but there is a town called Norge in Virginia that has an interesting history. I used to live near there. Here's a link for you Droopy. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Norge,_Virginia
