Hi FountainMan, Iggy,..is a double for a cat i had some time back named "Wild Thing",..and he was that. Dixie and Dotty look to be of the same family,..lol at how your tribe of felines are striped and mine are black and whites. "Wild Thing" ( photo / image / picture from Philip Nulty's Garden )
You got it 100% right. Iggy is a double of a cat. He's the alpha male. He came from a seperate family, but he's in charge of the other 2. Dixie was the first cat we got. Dotty is her daughter. After we adopted Dixie she became pregnant and produced 4. We gave 3 to friends. We kept Dotty. So yes they're the same family. They're really sweet. Like little gardening buddies.
Oh and they do treat the garden as theirs!,..a feline jungle,lol,..its good that you like them,..now off to look at your garden pictures,..i am catching up!.
They do. Of course they don't like being outside when they're alone. If a cat came out wih me and I came in without the cat, about 1 minute later they're crying at the door. When we're outside they don't often go further than 5 Ft of me or dad. When I'm working on the pond or something, Iggy tends to rub up against me intensly. He doesn't just rub against you, he actually clunks his head hard. Sometimes I think he's trying to puch me into the pond. It's funny. There's a spot between the 2 Japanese maples by the round pond he likes to hang out. But that was before I added a drip emitter which leaves no room for him to lay.
I can't believe someone can be that cruel to poison your cat's when you where gone. Makes me boiling mad when people mistreat any animal or another person. Glad they moved. It is true that a cat does choose you. Before we moved, a family that had an indoor cat moved out next to us. They then put this house cat out in the horse barn to live. She was declawed, spayed, and a very shy cat. One snowy Nov. day I looked out of our patio doors and there she sat. She was meowing like she wanted to come in. I would go to the door she would run away as soon as I opened it. But each time not as far away as before. They one snowy day she was sitting there looking in the patio door again. I slowly walked over to the door and opened it. She looked around and slowly walked in. She lived with us for over 3yrs and never wanted to go back outside. We named her Sneaker's. As she would sneak around the house because she was still so shy. I even called the neighbors and told them that their cat was living in our home. They said that, that was fine with them. She loved to sprawl out full length, laying on my hubbies legs and purr. She never jumped on the cupboards and was a really nice cat.
Hi Tooty2shoes, i like hearing nice stories like yours,..when you rescue a cat or dog i think they show how they appreciate you doing so,..the previous owners of "Sneakers",..certainly had no love for her,..that's something i fail to understand. All of mine are well mannered,..they sleep with my dog "Molly",..and my other dog "Hudson",..just abides them,..she is coming up to 17 years old in September,..so there is some excuse,..none of them put a foot wrong,..apart from climbing up the curtains,..and swatting at anything that sways, . Sitting on a hard rock!,..i think they are learning NOT to sit on my "Saxifraga hypnoides 'Densa'. ( photo / image / picture from Philip Nulty's Garden )
Cats will eventually learn but if they can get away with something....... Cats never slept on my fathers bed, they would get a quick launch into the air. They learned.....sort of....if they could sneak a nap they would try. If heavy footsteps approached, the thump of paws could be heard hitting the floor ahead of his entry into the room. Jerry
Lol Jerry,..i can picture all the antics you mentioned,..and they do learn,..and get even more cunning,..look at this for an expression of surprise. "Foot prints where??. ( photo / image / picture from Philip Nulty's Garden )
