You need more then an av =anti virus, because that only searches for and hopefully finds viruses, malewarebytes, finds all things malicious! even embedded in registry, in other words it finds much more then any av can and does!! if while scanning it hit's on a virus, then AVG will pop up, I would never be without both on my PC. I always recommend getting rid of Norton, then download Free AVG 9 home edition and malewarebytes, ASAP. note: Norton is difficult to get rid of, there is a website on how to rid your PC of it.

I use Avast antivirus. It also will detect spyware and malware. It offers real time protection, for example it has alerted me several times when I attempted to click on something I googled that there was a virus or trojan on that page. So no waiting to scan and find viruses. This program can prevent them from getting onto your computer in the first place. I find that it does not slow my system down or cause as many conflicts as AVG did. Updating it is very easy and it's easy to use. It is also a free program. I like it better than any Norton I have tried. It's just so sad that some people have nothing more worthwhile to do with their time than to find ways to cause trouble for others. If they are smart enough to design a virus to infect other computers they could channel that into something beneficial instead of into greed and harm. Enuf said...done preaching.

    b,
Did you try contacting them with your specific problem? I have found that using "live chat" or email provides good results. In fact, Microsoft was able to walk me through a complete repair of Windows Vista after I tried their live chat help. I had problems trying to install printer software and after dealing with HP (printer) and Dell (computer), it was Microsoft who saved the day. The problem I was having was not listed in the common problems on any of their sites.

Is malewarebytes free? So I need either AVG and maleware or Avast? I have used Norton before and don't like it and had Kapersky and it slowed my computer down something terrible!!

Kuntrygal, I'm on super pokey rural dial-up and I use the combination of malewarebytes and AVG with no significant slowup. Just set them to get the updates when your computer is on but you're not trying to use it. :stew2:

I have also tried Avast in the past, but find it is not as comprehensive a software as AVG is, in other words it is a smaller program, and NO anti virus will find everything, but malewarebytes does.. and is not an anti virus, most techs, on computer forums recommend this, many are techs who work on Pc's for a living...And AVG alerts to downloads with a virus, it works while you are on the, internet...AVG works while you are on the internet always and alerts to potential viruses, and updates automatically every day..And YES both programs are FREE...

Think we might have picked up this Trojan thing from Photobucket. Windows Security (the new one) picked it up and dealt with it. AVG which is supposed to be doing real time protection did not (yes it is the latest version too).
Will come back later with soem advice I was given to combat this particular Trojan/malaware thing.

OK, I am not the sharpest tack in the box...so I am trying to download from the link Susie provided. I'm not sure it is downloading malewarebytes or not because it says something about 'Uniblue'. It is searching and has found over 1400 so far. But does a free version have to be registered?

Are you sure you clicked on the download button for Malwarebytes? There are at least two other download links on the page when I looked at it.

Uniblue is a company that offers software for computer maintenance - Registry Booster is one that I have tried. It will do the scan for free but to fix more than 15 errors you have to register the product and purchase the full version.

    added:

Just downloaded (and ran) the Malwarebytes and there was no reference to Uniblue. Did the scan and no infection was found - yippee!

Palustris, I am interested in the exact name of your Trojan. I had a Trojan several months ago and I also use photobucket but of course I can't pinpoint exactly where I got it but would SOOOO like to know. :stew1:
