Honestly I have yet to separate any keikis. I got a link from the American Orchid Society to a video that shows how to do it. I'll have to watch it soon. I've also got quite a few with basal keikis but have been told to just leave those alone. Some of those have roots that look like octopus arms coming out. I just had to put one of mine down, it had been looking puny and only had a couple of leaves. I pulled it out of the medium and there were no new roots so I played taps and gave it a gracious burial.
I was so sure I'd replied. Maybe I did but I didn't hit post I haven't tried to separate any of them yet as the roots need to be at least 4" long. I got a video link from the American Orchid Society on how to do it so I'll watch it a couple of times before I try.
You did reply Chris! There are now two replies from you saying essentially the same thing.....can you not see both of them? I'll be curious to see how and when you separate these that you posted pics of. Hope you'll keep us updated.
I see them now Ronnie. What I believe happened was when I went back to the thread I didn't see my first reply and neither did my eyes focus on the little page numbers on the left. I'll definitely keep this thread updated when I do the surgery.
