Oh dear me, MG....I laughed until my sides hurt. That remark of yours was priceless....the wording, the tone....Oh dear me!

Poor KK, what will he think. I guess that he will just take that remark with a grain of salt.........oh, hang on--- that salt goes on the spuds though.

KK, I hope you realize I was trying to be funny (often a failed attempt on my part) and wasn't really castigating you for asking about mashing the potatoes. After we eat our way through about 20 pounds of them I may resort to mashing them!

    :D :D :D
Potatoes was a no no for me until I went to Germany and learn how to appreciate them. The potatoes in Europe taste so much nicer than those we get here ... mainly import from China and potatoes are just potatoes. There was only two ways to eat them, curry or soup which is so boring and I hated them.

Now I have a big appetite for mashed potatoes flavoured with herbs and parmesan cheese. I guess I just saw delicious creamy mashed potatoes when I saw your potatoes :D yum!!! Now that you mentioned baking them I'll have to go to the supermart and get me some russet for baking in the jacket for lunch, if I can get Red La Soda I will and do it exactly the way you mentioned it but I doubt I can get any because I have never seen it before.

OK going to get potatoes now!!! :-D

Well KK, just for your info, there are some potatos that are better for mashing and others tyhat are better boiled or steamed. In fact there is a whole other type of spud that is called, "The gourmet potato"/salad potato...and these (in my opinion) are the very best spud one can eat.

Here in my country potato's are a big deal and there are many types and gradients in terms of taste, crumbliness, waxyness, stiffness, softness and so forth. There are a number of ways that we prepare spuds and so when one goes to the store to buy potatos, they have in their head what they plan to do with the potato and then they look for exactly the right one to suit their plans.

It is a lot to remember, but then spuds have been a part of our diet for centuries and the knowledge is acquired and learned over time.

I doubt that many other nationalities make such an exaggerated big deal over potatoes as we do. hahaha.

I like mashed potatoes sometimes. Did you know that when you are making them from a real potato that after you mash them, you can then mash them again through a fine mesh sieve and you will then wind up with really creamy mashed potatos?

Dear me, I do love a good spud...and I experiment with new types every year in the lottie.

That's a great harvest Jane. And now you all made me hungry for potatoes and all I have at the house are plain old russets. :(

Thanks Sjoerd, should or when I come to Europe again especially Holland, I will definitely have a taste of all the potatoes :) . In actual fact most Chinese here refer to potatoes as Holland root veggie, I have no idea how this term come about even though there is a word for it. I can remember my mum used to mentioned that potatoes of Holland origin is the best.

    I guess now I have a new veggie to explore :-D .
