That must be why we're warned against planting tomatoes and potatoes near each other.

A tunnel is the way to go if you want to grow tomatoes here. I have a saying, It is either a year for tomatoes or a year for cabbage. Most of the people I know have already lost all their tomato plants. Mine will fruit in August and September. I just transplanted tomatoes that grew in the compost in the spring. I took loads of cuttings of suckers. I replaced all the dodgy plants with rooted cuttings and it seems that this type of tomato that is in the picture. That will be my seeds for next year’s crop because they are the most resistant.

Pricisely, Cayu. I have exhausted all the other possibilities for growing them outside and it was buy the greenhouse or no toms. Simple. I think that I posted my efforts on here donkey's ears ago. They always started out fine but eventually I simply lost all my harvests.
Addendum: I must say that when I grew toms at my old home home (on the balcony) in a commercial sack of potting soil, they did alright; however, I could not grow enough that way, plus I don't want soil sacks standing around and filling up the balcony's floor space.
It is also possible to grow spuds in a bag as well. It's all fun, but in the end one just doesn't get enough.
