Thanks so much for the thoughts and prayers. Chuck has pins in his leg and his foot is broken in several places. He is in so much pain the meds aren't even touching it ( No surprise there.) Evidently he saw it coming ("it" was a 1 ton pickup truck) and he tried to get out of the way, but wasn't successful at it. It hit him and threw him through the yard a few feet. He got up, went into the house, came back out and the police were there (I don't know who called) and he went to them and said he had just been hit and then he collapsed. Knowing who generally looses in a person/vehicle altercation, I think he was very fortunate.
Chuck was indeed extremely lucky Carolyn. I thought that his hip and pelvis may have been badly damaged too. Thankfully, (although his injuries are serious) he has a good chance of making a full recovery. How he managed to get up and go into the house then back out again with those broken bones I don't know. Give him our regards and tell him we're thinking of him and keeping our fingers crossed that his pain will lessen soon.
Carolyn, I am so sorry for your cousin and his family. This is a terrible time for all of you, but Chuck is alive, he is on the mend, and things will get better. Until they do, our daily prayers will include Chuck and all his family, including you.
Eileen, It is amazing what we can do on adrenalin. My dad had a horseback riding accident about 5 years ago and he doesn't remember it completely. His horse backed into an electric fence and dumped him on a log....we think. He managed to get up, catch the horse, put her away after he took off her saddle, changed his boots and pants, called my mom at work to come get him and maybe have him checked out... He ended up in ICU trauma with a collapsed and punctured lung, 3 broken ribs, a broken clavicle and a broken sternum...he was on a ventilator for two weeks...almost didn't make it. It didn't shock me to hear Chuck had gotten up and gone into his house and came back out. I am just glad he was not hurt worse. KK and Jane, Thanks. I appreciate the thoughts and prayers for the family. We all need support from our friends and loved ones and we appreciate it from even those who don't know the victim.
Glad to hear that Chuck is on the mend. I hope there are very harsh penalties for drunk drivers in Ohio.
It sounds like your relative just was able to slip through the eye of a needle, so to speak. It is disturbing to think of how badly he could have been injured. In fact, he could not have survived right on the spot. I am so happy for you and your family.
