Wow, just look at that big back yard, you could really build your own park back there! :-D

That's occurred to me - there used to be a gazebo thing there, but it was so rotted that we had to take it out when we moved in. There's three places around the perimeter of the yard with electrical outlets (the builder was an engineer and added all sorts of little things like that) so we could potentially play around with fountains or something that needs power... I would like to get, at the very least, a nice weatherproof picnic table and some kind of shelter for it. I have lots of ideas, I'm just lacking time, money, know-how and muscle. :p

Maybe this summer I can at least get the picnic table out there. The perimeter has a nice blooming dogwood, a hazelnut and a madrone - we would like to get a couple more small trees/large shrubs put in for additional privacy but haven't decided quite what yet.

Hoorah! I have roses at last! Nothing like the amazing array of Pianolady, but they do smell lovely.

I had noted some aphid problems with them, but even as I was contemplating getting some sort of spray mixed up I found ladybugs, lots of them, all nicely washing up like little cats before grabbing another aphid to munch. Sure enough, they seem to have them under control for now - yay ladybugs!

Aren't they marvelous? Makes me want to go get a bag of dormant ones just to add to the population. All kinds of spots too.

As the irises are fading away, my daisies are just beginning and also the first of the lilies -

Always so cheery, and I like the way they keep blooming for so long too - they and the orange and coral colored ones will be blooming all summer into the early fall.

All my lilies are opening now - the little daylilies, tigerlilies, star lilies, etc.... orange, red, coral, lemon and gold.

I thought this one, taken near sunrise, came out especially nice...

My cat, Pi, thought she would turn the planter by the front door into her personal 'catplant' - she was so comfortable I didn't have the heart to move her.

Is there such a thing as too many lilies? They are opening all over the place... a couple favorites - these just opened up, I love how "orchid like" they are:

And the bicoloring on this one is a real eyecatcher -

I also got 4 sword ferns at a plant sale this morning and conscripted my son into being the 'digger' for me -

He may not like weeding, but he loves to dig holes. I'm hoping to gradually build up the number of ferns I have under the trees.

I used to dig holes as well when I was a kid. I was always looking for treasure, and occasionally found some. I added to my crock which I fiercely protect :D

Great photos as usual Prim. You do like your fancy photo borders :)

Lovely piccies again Prim. My lilies are coming in to bud at last but I don't have any as pretty as yours.
Nice to see your son giving you a helping hand. Why is it men love to dig holes so much I wonder? :D

The program I have for resizing, cropping, etc. has a quite a lot so I often like to play with them. :-D

I agree about the hole-digging! I first found out he liked to dig holes when he dug a big one right in the middle of our walking path. Better to put that to use where it can be helpful!
