I have seen a few that woke up already, but never made it back to their dens. The roads are not their friends. It didn't hurt my feelings to see that after seeing what they did to my chicks in the Spring a few years ago.
Netty, one thing you can do is spread black plastic on the ground under your feeder. Then sprinkle lime on the plastic. The lime will stick to their wet paws and they will lick them and the lime will burn their mouth. That's how my brother used to keep them out of his sweet corn.
