My thoughts are with her and her family and friends. What a shocking thing to happen. I am at a loss for words.
Kids are so resilient!!! They woke Rachel up Wednesday night and by Thursday the ventilation tube had been removed, she was talking to her parents and asking for a strawberry Smoothie. Not completely out of the woods yet, she still has very little movement on her left side, problems breathing and running a fever, but considering the size of the aneurysm and resulting stroke, she is doing almost 100% better than the Doctors ever dreamed she would be. A complete evaluation of possible physical and mental impairment is still to be done. My daughter told the parents how many people here on GardenStew have been sending good thoughts and prayers her way, they are very thankful for you all.
So glad that Rachel seems to be recovering so well Toni. I hope she keeps improving and gets the movement back on her left side and hasn't been mentally impaired in any way.
This is good news, Toni--VERY good news. Well, everyone can only take it a day at the time...but I must say there was a definate air of optimism in this last update of yours. I think that Rachel's greatest 'plus' is her age. When thinking of the long term recovery, the fact that still has so much developing yet to do is nothing but a plus. What I am saying is that her body may make compensations and corrections to this unusual event. I don't think that one can be sure to what extent she will recover until she is about 26 or so. By then the majority of correction that the body can do will have been done and of course one can hope andone WILL hope, but no one will know what exactly to expect. As you said yourself, she has improved to a degree of 100% beter than her docs were estimating...it has to give one quite a good reason to hope, doesn't it? Sending another packet of good wishes for the young girl, her parents and you two as well. I know that while you don't mentoin this much, it must have you quite worried. It's why that when I send supportive well-wishes, I try and not forget the loved ones who are suffering right along with the one who is ill. Hang in there, Toni...everyone here is with you on this one.
Oh Toni, that is such good news. I am so glad you posted it to us. Kids are resilient, and miracles happen sometimes. Thanks for that update. Yay!
How relieved her family and friends must be. Such good news - I'll keep the good thoughts coming for good health and improvement.
This is the website her 20 year old sister has started with updates of Rachel's progress after the stroke. There is also a Guestbook that my daughter asked if you all would sign and let her and her family know that people from all over the world have been keeping her in their prayers, thoughts and sending healing energies her way. They are printing out the guestbook pages and putting them in a journal for her. http://www.caringbridge.org/visit/rachelherrera
