Just for you Eileen, a whole pot of variegated foliage,I think it is actually a racing stripe, this type sometimes flower twice a year, I like the foliage better than the plain ordinary flower. ( photo / image / picture from chocolate's Garden )
Thankyou everyone for your interest and compliments. Philip. I try to keep 1/3rd of the bulb above the soil level, but by the time I add fertilizer such as manure, sheep/cow and some mulch, it becomes level, doesn't seem to worry them though, I think the idea is to keep the neck dry, there are so many layers around the neck where water can sit.
Hi Folks,..thank you all from me as well for all the interest,..the second flower has opened fully but the pictures are still in the camera as i was completing my video of "September Blooms 2013",..just finished it moments ago. ===================================================== Hi Cayuga Morning that red also reminded me of Christmas which is getting very close now. ====================================================== Thanks Chocolate for that tip about keeping the neck dry,..somewhere i read about adding moss below the neck,..i suppose it might help keep it dryish. I like that variegated foliage very attractive.
Thanks Philip. :-D I must keep an eye out for one with variegated foliage as I think they are very attractive.
I realized that its impossible to to justice to an Amaryllis in a photograph,..i would need a shot of the four sides of a bloom however below is how it is tonight,..the largest bloom is 8 inches wide. Beautiful. Mine are all in the ground and I won't see them again until spring. I might have to buy a couple next time I'm out.
Hi Oubee,..this was my first time to grow one and i just used potting compost that had Miracle Grow already added to it,..i surely would like mine to bloom twice per year. ( photo / image / picture from Philip Nulty's Garden ) =================================================== Hi Donna,..i wish i could plant mine outside but we don't always get the weather to suit growing them outside. Oh do look for some more for next year they are worth looking at. ( photo / image / picture from Philip Nulty's Garden )
Hi Cheryl,..blooms of all kinds tend to captivate,..up to now it was roses with me,..i think i am easily distracted,..now its Amaryllis lol. ------------------------------------------------------ Hi Connie,..if you were to grow one indoors i would say go get one as they bloom in a short time,..however check for your area.
New development,....there are now eight blooms,..nearly all are 7 inches big,..however two more buds are appearing which i hope will make ten blooms in all. ( photo / image / picture from Philip Nulty's Garden ) ( photo / image / picture from Philip Nulty's Garden )
