Thanks for asking Droopy! It's 16 degrees right now, which doesn't bode very well for any of this ice and snow to go away. It's supposed to get up to 36 later with some sunshine, so hopefully that will help. The interstate which is just 1.5 miles away from my house is completely clear, but right now I can't get there from here! The two long streets I have to navigate to get out of my subdivision, both of which have steep sections, and then the hilly road leading to the interstate, are still completely iced over, according to the reports I'm getting from the neighborhood website and the few folks brave enough to head out.....most in 4 wheel drive vehicles. <sigh> I'm not one who MUST get out every day. I am basically a homebody. But this is starting to get old. Plus I miss my guy....we'd planned to spend the weekend together when we found out it was going to snow....big ole' fireplace, wine and hot chocolate, watching movies and lazing around. Ned was gonna come get me lunchtime Friday, (a couple hours before the snow was supposed to start) and deliver me back home Sunday afternoon. I was SO disappointed when I got up Friday morning and saw that it had already started to snow and the conditions were already really bad! Oh well. Sun's out. Maybe we'll have somewhat of a thaw today.
Snowpocalypse Day 3. ? You can see some rooftops! And there's blacktop showing through in bits on the road. Freeway is clear. I COULD venture out, I could...the roads aren't as bad as they were though McCrory is reported to still be pretty treacherous in places. But my stir crazy is fighting with my cowardice at the idea of driving on the ice that's left. Cowardice is currently winning.
Stay put, Ronni. Driving when you're tense is a bad idea. It's better to be safe than sorry, yes? The roads will be fine shortly, and then you can go wherever you like without risking anything.
Snowpocalypse Day 4. ? It's Monday. A work day. Cloudy, forecast is for clouds most of the day but temps in the low 50's By a little bit of serendipity, my first client of the day doesn't need me to come in till late morning, so hopefully by then the roads will have been traveled enough to clear a path for me, even without much sun to thaw what's left of the ice. Fingers crossed!!!
Ahhh, Mother Nature keeping things interesting!! After all it IS Winter Love your photos, looks like a winter wonderland for you. We are used to snow and I like having the blanket on the ground to insulate my plants. Just had an icy morning, which turned into a snowy afternoon, 3 inches over the couple already on the ground. Hope it melts quick for you Ronni.
Yikes Ronni: So glad you and yours are safe and sound. But talk about Snowapocalypse. The east coast really go hammered. I can't imagine 30" of snow over several hours. NOT DAYS. Yikes! Last night we had 4 to 5 inches of snow. Everything looked so pretty this morning with the fresh covering of snow. Roads weren't to bad at 9:30 am on my drive in to see my Mom. One direction from our home is quite level. The other pretty hilly. So I took the level road. Droopy funny you should mention snow tires with studs in them. Here in the Wisconsin they have been banned because they damage the roads so badly. The only people that are allowed to use studded Snow tires are mail delivery vehicles, emergency vehicles, and school buses. Several years ago my hubby who delivered mail out in the country decided to get studded snow tires because of the bad back road conditions. Two weeks into having the studded snow tires on his car he got a flat tire. One of the studs have pushed threw and given him a flat. A few weeks later it happened again. He went back to the place at put the studs in and had them remove them all. No more flat tires.
