So how many times did your grandfather attempt to get married?

You've done a lot of research already, and I do hope you'll get to the bottom of it before too long. I wonder if you have a lot of distant relatives out there who are also trying to find out what happened?

We lived near Salt Lake City for about three years and my wife and I used to spend hours in the ancestry library that the LDS church has there (the same people who run Ancestry). We found out some really neat stuff about our families. I would caution you to check and doublecheck your info. Names can be very close and sometimes things get mixed up.

I think my grandmother must have had tight control over him especially after my Mom was born, he stopped his wandering ways and stayed with her until she died in 1943 and my Mom was still living at home until he died in 1946.
I am not sure he ever knew about Hattie divorcing him, they had moved from Chicago to Tennessee, then to Texas and in the days way before the internet he probably successfully dropped out of sight.

I know my granddad had brothers and sisters but I have yet to find anyone researching them except one man whose wife is my Mother's 2nd cousin 3 times removed ... (or is she her 3rd cousin 2 times removed) through one of my granddads sister's who my Mom was named after. And I can't find any recent info on any of the women in his life either.

I have found lots of information on the LDS site FamilySearch.com that Ancestry.com just doesn't have, I really like that one.

The marriage license requests have my granddads parents names and signatures on them so I know they are legit. Wonder what they thought of his frequent trips to the application office o_O But yeah, I have run into a lot of people with the same names and followed their trail until I could either prove they were mine or someone elses. I never dreamed there were so many baby girls born in Chicago in the same year as my Mother and all have the same first and last names.
