I think they would. A house is only serving it's true purpose if it 'works' for the people living in it. Updating certain areas that are less usable means you will enjoy living in the house. Making repairs shows that you have respect for the house and the original builder/owner by keeping the house livable, useable and pleasant to look at, whether it's you, your family or visitors doing to looking. Changing paint colors on the inside and/or outside of the house shows that you like the house and are making this house your own home. And making changes also shows that you care enough about the family home that you want it to be around for future generations.
