I'm very impressed by the Pakistani mentality! I wish our politicians could adapt a similar view. Instead they make it near impossible for small farmers to continue their work, and we import more and more from abroad.

Take potatoes for instance. We've got plenty of different types of potatoes that grow well here, but the consumers don't want them all of a sudden. Why? Because they don't look pretty enough... They want light, smallish ones imported from the Mediterranean area, not the heavier types from up here, bar one that's considered a delicacy and can't be grown everywhere.

I think I'll stop here or I'll start with the razing of rain forest to make grazing land next.

Well Droopy you have once more raised a good point - However our problem in Pakistan is that our policy makers often (against the well of the people) end up exporting most of our home grown food like rice, wheat, and other stuff. They always say that they had to do this because the country needed to earn some foreign-exchange.

Fortunately, there is always enough to go around (so no one is left hungry). However doing this often pushed the food prices up in the local markets (as most of it gets exported). Which is why people then frown.

Few years ago, our corrupt politicians exported nearly all of the wheat reserves of the country when we had a bumper crop (again, in the name of earning foreign-exchange). So what happened next was a shortage of wheat in the next 6 months - And so the price of flour became very high. Therefore we (who are one of the largest producers of wheat), then had to import wheat - Otherwise the government would have fallen.

However, what actually happened was that our Prime Minister at the time, was in cahoots with some international wheat suppliers - So we then had to buy back our very own exported wheat, at 3 times the price (for which the politicians secretly took huge bribes)...

Now however, that Prime Minister of ours is too scared to return back to the country. Because everyone knows, that the Pakistani people can be ultra vindictive.

Anyway, the problem is that we (as in all the people of the world) need policy makers who do what is best for the people. Not sell them out at the slightest excuse for some kickbacks...

OK, now here is a video that I myself had made this year.

    http://www.vimeo.com/10222038

It is a grand expo, showcasing all the stuff Pakistan makes. From high tech machinery, to farm produce, and just about everything else in between (food stuff comes in after 20 minutes of play).

    :)
