I can remember Grand Mother Sewing me up. Blizzard. She had curved needle. Dumbed it with ice. I know I could do it. Have given shots to dogs. Got things ready for first aid. Traps and DH very good shot with bow-compound. Butcher it our self. If no lights can it.

I can give shots with my insulin syringes, or similar ones. I have never ever seen a HORSE syringe so big S-H ! I ain't scared of much, but that syringe is a bit scary to me too. I can take vital signs, and have my own bp cuff. I think I can sew someone up if need be, but without sterile conditions they WILL require antibiotics of some kind.[Of course, I would make it as close to 'sterile' as possible, but with impromptu equipment, I would not guarantee it.]

Something good to know, MENTHOL like in Ben Gay or Vicks or antispetic mouthwash [such as Listerine] is an EXCELLENT antimicrobial. I got that from my herb doctor books. I use it all the time now, and never buy antibiotic salves any more. It not only kills bacteria, it kills fungi, viruses, scabes and other harmful microbes. Just never put it in/near your eyes or private parts.

I do believe in our 2d Amendment rights as citizens to bear arms, but even so we are dealing with a friend here who is mentally unstable and has his own arsenal and has made threats on people's lives. It is quite upsetting and unnerving. I accidently interrupted some would be bank robbers who were high as the moon on some illegal drugs once, and had a VERY SCARY experience. Thankfully, that did not turn into the blood bath it could have been.

If we had some disaster here, I would be sharing whatever I have with my neighbors, and I am sure they would do likewise. My sons have literally given the shirts off their backs to help others in need. I hope I would never ever have to shoot anyone for any reason. Tin cans and bottles are about it for my shooting.

ps, that Chinese military shovel looks very handy. I know the US military has similar shovels, but would not know whose is best.

Of course, I too know how to sterilize everything. I have a huge supply of antiseptics, as well as a UV sterilizing lamp. Boiling in clean water for over half an hour is also a good and time tested method.

Well, where I live - On one side there is the Arabian Sea, while on the other dwell 20+ million residents of Karachi city. So even if a 100 other people join me in this doomsday prepping, getting overrun by mobs still is a serious possibility...

Still, even though there is a serious possibility of Nuclear Weapons going off in the subcontinent at some point in the future. I mainly have 2 worries. First is the minor concern that some incurable ailment will spread in the urban areas. However my major worry is a social change (which will be brought on by some small disaster). Like shown in this clip from the movie Dr. Zhivago (see below) - Where after the rise of communism Zhivago returns to his home in Moscow, only to be very rudely greeted by a male and female official from the communist party... Who on the whim just decided that his home was fit to house 13 families... And so Dr. Zhivago then gets a daily scolding from the party officials, and that too in what used to be his own home!

So this is what I am actually prepping against. I know that some minor disaster (or an epidemic) will set off a chain of events which will somehow lead to power and authority shifting into the hands of the great unwashed... Who by the way are already (for no real reason) full of venom for the privileged class of people anyway. So when given even half a chance, they'll come to steal everything from you - And what's worse is that they will somehow make it legal too!

Because people in general are cowards, always have been since the beginning of time (happy to always go with the flow, regardless of which direction the flow is heading)... So when what I here now call the "great unwashed" (or what they call "Slum-Dogs" in India for lack of a better word) suddenly become uniformed officials - Is when other people will start to systematically cut off your roots. And will actually fool themselves into thinking that they are indeed doing their just duty.

However, here too I have prepared for a way out. Which is the fact that every man has his price. So for a time when currency too becomes worthless, having some solid Gold, Silver, and Gemstones too - Is what will enable you to bribe your way out of any jam, as all humans are extremely susceptible to corruption (specially in challenging times).

But when this too fails, then do put on a level 3 bulletproof vest, and get ready to shoot your way out (come what may)... :smt067

By the way, one of the best options to stocking up on a little bit of gold is either get the South African Krugerrand gold coins, or the Malaysian Kijang Emas Gold Bullion Coins. However the really great option (which is 99,99% pure gold) are ARY Gold Bars, in their security laminated packs... Because no matter what happens, even in the worst of times, human greed and lust for gold knows no limits!

See this video shot at Dubai international airport duty free shopping area - Where you can even buy gold bars of as much as 1 Kg (and no questions asked).

wow. I understand the difference in the vast population density, it's just not like that here, where I live, but I am sure there are areas of the US that are so densely populated my head would explode living like that.

Well, the greater Tokyo area's population is almost 36 million inhabitants. And what's even more amazing is that even when the Earthquake and Tsunami hit Japan, even when their Nuclear reactors started to go offline one by one - There wasn't a single report of looting anywhere in all of Japan that day. Nearly all the people, and I really do mean all - Got together and made the best of it! Store keepers too kept their doors open for a few days straight (until they ran out of supplies). So even being in a highly populated area of the world, doesn't always bring bad results.

Still, a prepper's job is to be ready for just about anything. As staying prepared is what buys me some much needed peace of mind. Which I just can't get by depending on others... So once I have my own mental peace, I can then have the luxury of focusing on other normal everyday activities - like gardening for example!

As I had stated before in this thread. Start carrying an umbrella with you whenever the sky is overcast, and it will never rain. But leave the umbrella at home (thinking that it will not rain) - Is the day you'll get wet! As this is how the universe operates, always dumping misfortune upon those who are not ready for it...

Participating in this thread caused me to have a bad dream last night... I dreamt that the world was about to end. The Sun was expanding into a Red Giant, all the oceans on Earth had already boiled away. And there were huge creators on the surface 10s of miles across (no doubt remnants from some global nuclear war)...

However only 3 things remained alive, me, cockroaches, and Duck Dynasty TV show's uncle Si, who by the way was ordering around the cockroaches (from time to time shouting "and that's a fact Jack")... Now why exactly did I see that idiot in my dream? I mean why him of all the people? Why couldn't I just see some attractive female Russian model in his place???

How sad that today there was horrible weather in Illinois and to top it off, I heard tonight there was already looting going on. What terrible people to do such a thing.

Well, it really is a very sad thing to say - But when it comes to the worst things which can ever happen to us, are all usually done to us by other people. Natural disasters just come and go, actually they go just as quickly as they come. But what we later end up doing to each other - Turns out to be a lot worse, and far longer lasting (specially as bad memories)...

In other words, we ourselves are our own worst enemies!

Reactivating this old thread again, as I want to brag a little today! :D Because the one thing that was still missing in my survival kit, I now have finally obtained - All kinds of Dental Tools! :D

From left to right - Extra long dental mirror (with a little magnifying power), dental spatula (to mix all the filling compounds), long dental tweezers (angled end), short dental tweezers (at the top)... After this the next 2 items are first a dental cavity depth gauge, and a Dycal applicator - Used to cover an exposed area with calcium hydroxide (Dycal), which may have become sensitive to hot and cold beverages.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z3Uk15_Lszg

After this are 3 dental probes, and 2 hand scalers (to remove any hardened plaque). One of which is like a sickle, while the other is like a regular paint scraper. Only it is very tiny - All tools are right handed on one side, and mirrored to the left on the other side (to enable use on both sides of the mouth)... Next come the 8 different burnishers, compactors, and carvers (used to shape the tooth filling before it sets hard). While the last 4 are the different types of spoon excavators, which can be used in place of a drill (only the work will proceed very slowly if the cavity is too large).

And of course last but not least is the toothbrush and toothpaste (which actually gives the ultimate care, provided it is regularly used)... So next time when disaster strikes, I'll constantly be grinning from ear to ear!!! :D
