I sowed spinach last fall, upon the advice of a gardening friend. Only a few took, but those plants have been great. Much better than the spring sown spinach. I will try it again next fall.

Cayuga, does the spinach grow in Fall or wait until Spring?
I may try that. Our kale reseeded it's self and we had plenty
    until recently.

Growingpains, the seeds germinate early in the spring. I just threw some seed on the ground in the late fall, mixed it in a bit & hoped for the best. I got a few plants out of it, but they are huge & very healthy & very tender.

Okay, I just googled how to grow spinach with a fall sowing: plant before the ground freezes & cover with a floating row cover. The source recommended this type of spinach: Tyee.

I think I will try it this fall. I don't know about sourcing Tyee seeds. I'll probably just use what i already have.

Cayu, the onions seem to be faring well, and maybe not so well at the same time.
Ever since we had that hard hail storm, the leaves have been broken and now they are curly. They have sent up some new leaves that are upright. I thought they may be shooting, but I gently squeezed the new upright leaves and they are hollow. I do find them suspect though. I am going to keep a close eye on those guys.

Sjoerd, here is wishing you perfectly edible onions. Onions are such an important part of the diet.
I have taken up several garlic heads. They turned out better than I feared they might. Just hoping the Next batch are equal to the first.

I am not really happy with how they are looking, the Bride has written them off already I think...but we will wait and see.

Sjoerd, I'm with you. Wait and see. Even if less than perfect, they may be good enough.

    Right.
Yeah, we shall see. I am one of those “never-give-up” types. I have to see it to believe it. Chuckle.
