Good morning all! We started the potato picking yesterday with mixed results. There was quite a bit of grass on some of the potato drills and after a few hours that caused a part in the potato harvester to break. However it's fixed now this morning so we will start again soon :)

    Have a top Tuesday all!

Good Tuesday morning all. Currently 14°C and windy. Back to work today, where we get serious about the fall cleanup. Not quite half way yet, but should pass the halfway point today. Have a great day all :)

Good morning all! Well the potato harvesting continues today. We are half way through the field and going well. Should take just another day and a bit to finish and then that is the last large farm job finished for the year. Then it is on to feeding stock for the winter until the lambing period starts the whole year off again.

    Have a wonderful Wednesday all!

Always so much to do at the farm Frank!
Good Wednesday morning all. Currently just 6°C and windy. The wind gusts were keeping me awake last night. When the sun comes up I'm sure the trees will be leafless. Off to work, where we are down to 6 days to complete cleanup ... should be interesting. Tonight I have my first skating lesson in 35 years! Have a great day all :)

Morning all. Up before the sun this morning and already have been to drop off the car for $$$ in repairs, stopped at Starbucks for what passes for coffee in their mind and daughter who drives said car wanted breakfast at McDonalds, then took her home. Will be back at her place at 10 to take her to the Chiropractor, then take her home. Then pick her and the Gerbil up at 1:30 for a vet appointment that will most likely not have a happy ending....old Gerbil who lost her companion in August now has a lump on her back that is in-operable and untreatable.

So sometime around 3 p.m. my time, it will be 5 p.m. some where and the first adult beverage will be in my hand.

And the temperature yesterday was 95 deg and should only be 96 today. I am so sick of this heat and no rain. Might be a cool front towards the weekend but it will be a dry front so still no rain. The most recent rainless streak is in day 35.

Sounds like you have a busy day, Toni. I cleaned up the annuals in the front yesterday as they had been nipped good by frost then decided to rearrange my living room. Either I'm getting older or my furniture is gaining weight! I don't know if I like it better or not but at least it's a little different.

Good morning all! Potato harvesting day 4 begins. This should be the final day if the weather stays dry and machinery works as it should. The yield isn't wonderful this year due to some wet weather this year. Some parts of the filled are worse than others due to spot flooding.

    Have a terrific Thursday all!

Good Thursday morning all. Currently 7°C and cloudy, and still windy. It sure has been windy this month! Skating class went well last night ... I didn't fall once! I thought I might have sore legs today, but I don't. Another busy day of fall cleanup today, I hope the rain holds out until late in the day. I heard the "S" word in the weather forecast for the weekend ... I hope its not true! Have a great day all :)

Morning all. If I don't see the inside of either of our vehicles for.... at least for the rest of this week.... that would be great. But the car is working properly and inspected for another year, the gerbil is doing better than expected as the tumor isn't affecting anything serious but is to be watched closely because the Vet doesn't believe that reprieve will last long, the Chiropractor is successfully treating daughters carpal tunnel problem so the chance of surgery being needed is greatly reduced.....and I finally have my first cup of coffee for the day!!! Life is getting better. Until you step outside and feel the heat and see all the brown vegetation along the streets and highways and those are the native plants, the non-native plants withered and died weeks ago.

We have a forecast of 95 degrees again today, yesterday was 96. The humidity has been super low too, several deserts around the world have had higher humidity than we have lately....and they usually have at least 10-30 percent humidity, ours lately has been hovering around 10-15%. Wildfire down in the Austin area, Bastrop County is on fire again, they were devastated a few years ago.

When we got up this morning, about 7 a.m., we could smell smoke. We immediately started scanning the horizon, but saw no plumes of smoke, no red glow, nothing. Then we found out that it was the smoke from Bastrop that we were smelling. Those poor people--we have acquaintances in Smithville, which has had evacuations.
It was warm today, but we were moving furniture back into the living and dining rooms so we would have been "warm" anyway!
Tomorrow is a presentation on beekeeping to the local garden club. I am hoping they will be able to stay awake for the presentation (if not, I may let a few bees loose!)

It was very windy today. It got into the 50's but with the wind blowing it didn't feel warm at all. I may go down to 30 degrees tonight. Time for getting ready for winter, I think. dr just found my wool lap robes so I can keep my legs warm when I'm watching tv or on the computer. I need to sew some shopping bags. I want to make a big one for the front of my new shiny red walker. It does have a seat with a small storage area but it won't hold much. You can't put anything in the storage if you want to fold the walker which you need to do if the bus is crowded. I need to do something useful anyway. I saw a bee yesterday at the bus stop, Toni. It was trying to get into my walker. I think it needs to head south pretty quick.
Have a great evening everyone! dooley

Good Friday morning all. Currently just 5°C and overcast. Yesterday afternoon, the temperature dropped and a thunderstorm rolled through. The winds were howling all night long and kept me awake again. Clean up continues at work ... slow but sure ... but I am running out of time as I only have 4 days left. Have a great day all :)

Good morning all! We finally finished up the potato harvesting yesterday. Thankfully it was pretty painless this year compared to previous years. Also we had a smaller plot of land planted this year (2 acres). Today there is oats to be bagged up. Life on the farm never stops :whistling:

    Have a top Friday all!

Good Saturday morning all. Currently -1°C and cloudy. This is the coldest morning yet, hitting the 'minus' degrees and so anything left out in the garden will be black when it thaws. Skating this morning, and then home to clean up. I will have a lot of canning to do! Have a great day all :)

My veggie garden is done now. The frost got the tomatoes in the unheated greenhouse. The flowers are slowly going to sleep and I'm dragging the hose around trying to get them all watered good before the ground freezes.
