Good morning all. Spent 7 wonderful hours with both daughters and youngest grandson last night. Went for dinner and boy do we talk about a myriad of things when we get together. Got home pretty late and I didn't even get to sleep-in this morning.
Looks like the rain is over up here, still some coming from the south but it's traveling due east of us, sun is out and now the drying and heating up will begin.

Good Sunday morning all. Currently 4°C and sunny. Another beautiful day ahead, and after my inside chores are done I'll be heading outside to play in the yard!
Have a great day all :)

Good morning all. We get to 'look forward' to a, hopefully, short heat wave this week....86 in March is NOT a good thing for me but everyone else around here seems to think that it's a great idea. I didn't get up early enough to work in the back garden, too sunny now, so I will be planting some Caladium bulbs. Coleus and Hosta roots in the north shade bed today. And a couple of the Lamb's Ear plants are getting really large and suffering from our too much sun and heat the last couple of years so they need to be divided and moved to shadier spots.

Oh Cappy, that is just too funny!!! I have to forward that to a cat fancying friend.
I waded in and pruned the Esperanza rose today. Wading in is literal--the ground is still soggy, but the rose couldn't wait much longer. Seedlings are out on the hardening bench and trying to not be blown over by our wind--may have to take them back into the barn if the "breeze" persists.
I'm planting two roses this afternoon--Julia Child and Benjamin Brettan.

We picked around 100 lbs of loquat plums today and will do it again in 2 or 3 days not bad for 2 trees. When we get a post done about it I'll share it with yall.

Good afternoon all! Today started with a morning surprise. I was cleaning the cow's sleeping areas in the shed and there seemed to be a lot of slime in one of them. It's normal to see a small bit of slime when a cow is getting close to having their calf. However this was a lot of slime. My folks monitor the cows which are getting close to their time and move them to a private area. So I assumed that none of the cows were close to their time but still the amount of slime was puzzling. I turn around and lo and behold there is a newborn calf been licked by her mother and the was quite the excitement among the other moms to be. She had the calf so quick that she slipped through the monitoring cracks. Happy to say the calf is perfect and her and mother are resting together in one of the private areas now :)

    Good day all!

Good afternoon all. Had to get another cat trap from the city animal shelter yesterday, baited it last evening and caught our first one about an hour later. When we went out yesterday to get the trap, the gal asked if we knew how to set it, I said yes we have had to do this many times over the last 3 years. The gal filling out the paperwork said "they live on Valleywood" and the first gal said "Oh, you are the one with the cool front yard" It was Erica, she has been out here probably 10 times to get the cats we catch. I thought it was funny that just the name of the street was enough of a clue to who I was.

I have to keep the 'stuff' in the backyard or the city sends me a complaint letter. They consider anything that isn't made for outdoor use to be debris and therefore an environmental health hazard. The single wash tub on a stand is pushing their rules but since it was used in the yard back in the day, it gets to stay.

Good Wednesday all! Currently 5°c with winds picking up and overcast skies. Had a great day yesterday with my daughter at the mall. We managed to get most of the things we needed -and a few extras things too! I still can't find navy blue work pants that I like and that are appropriate for my work place, I guess Navy isn't 'in style' this year. Thought I would check at the local farm supply store later this week. I also managed to find peat pods, the ones made with actual peat moss and not coconut fiber, and that made me very happy! Waiting patiently for my seed order to arrive, but now I am ready. Have a great day all :)

I stepped out this morning to go pick one of our neighbors half a dozen grapefruit she requested and got hit in the nose by lemon blossoms! They started opening last night. Soon or yard will be full of citrus blooms nd I cant even begin to describe the smell. .

I lived in south Florida and traveled through northern Florida when the Orange blossoms were in full bloom....the fragrance from orchard after orchard will knock your socks off. But it is heavenly.
