Oh dear, the problems pets can cause. Our boys loved to visit the vet, yes honestly LOVED. They considered it a social occasion and would nip under the lift-flap of the desk to lick the assistant's knees. She took to wearing slacks when we had an appointment. They licked the vet, panted all over anyone in the room, and danced in and pranced out. One time the previous patient had bitten the vet, and when Lad came in grinning from ear to ear and shedding fur all over, the vet hugged him!
Toni, you have a good relationship with that Rottie. Your neighbor must be so thankful to have reliable dog-tenders when she is on vacation.
Heaven help us, we are still picking squash--fewer, but still picking. We are having a large hackberry tree that was endangering our roof taken out in stages. The crew has been here twice, and hopefully will finish up tonight. It is an extended family and all are hard working and tidy. Husband mentioned that the yard hadn't been so nicely raked in years! We hate losing a tree, but would hate replacing the roof even more.

Kinda blah here today. Bit of drizzly rain, not too much sun.

Good thursday morning all. Currently 24°c and humid. The humidex will feel like 42°C today, and so it may be an early day. That;s much to hot to be working out in! At least I will be watering and that might help keep me cool. Have a great day all :)

    Good morning all.
Netty you are having our temperature extremes now. Our temp has been 100-102 F (38-39c) with humidity index between 105-108 F (42c) for the last 10 days. We are supposed to get a break with temps in the low 90's (32-35c) range this weekend. Maybe even some rain.

Good Friday morning all and TGIF!! Yesterday was an early work day for me, I left a half hour early as I just couldn't stand being out in the heat anymore. And the rain that was supposed to happen last night did not happen. There is another chance of rain today, and tomorrow we are supposed to get substantial rain. Because the ground is so dry, hard, and cracked from the drought, weatherman warns of flooding as the ground will not be able to soak up the rain. My gardens and lawn will love any rain it can get!
Toni - these ongoing temperatures are brutal for us - Canadians aren't used to this! I keep saying we are getting Texas weather, and you just confirmed it! I don't know how you do it!!
Have a great day all :)

I don't know if it's a matter of being used to the heat or just the fact that we know it's coming as it does every year, it will last approximately 8-12 weeks and accept the inevitable.
Being able to stand the heat in our summers mostly involves having a central air conditioning system with an 'arctic blast' function. Our system is larger than would normally be required for a house the size of ours so it's more efficient and cheaper to run.

Speaking of summer heat, supposed to be only one more day of this heat and drought then tomorrow the temps will drop into the upper 80 to low 90 range and a really good chance of rain every day for about a week. But our ground is so rock hard too that a heavy/fast rain will cause more flooding and many areas are just getting over the spring floods we had too.

Good Saturday morning all. Currently 24°C, muggy and overcast. I am still waiting for the rain promised for yesterday and overnight, and also the 'substantial rain' for today. So far, it has rained everywhere except here :smt085 I just don't know what I will do if it doesn't come. Monday we are supposed to be getting a new furnace and so I get the task of cleaning up around the basement and clearing the stairwell to the basement. We have a 23" staircase to the basement and so this could be a challenge.

Good morning all. We did get a smattering of rain yesterday, a whoppin' .23 of an inch. We were, again and as usual, in a large and vast almost empty space in the weather system with heavier rain all around us and very little here.
Temp yesterday was 107 in the shade with a heat index of 115 also in the shade. Doesn't feel any cooler this morning than the last 21 mornings but the high temp is supposed to be only around 96. At least that's something.

Our rooster left yesterday (Hurrah!). A lady who keeps chickens came to get him and he cuddled right up to her. I'm so relieved--he is going to a very good home where he will be loved and cared for, and I don't have to contend with a rooster!
We got a bit of rain also, but more is forecast for later today and tomorrow is supposed to be wet.
I'm baking pull-apart rolls in my new mini-pans. If it works out I'll post pictures on the recipe forum. If not, you'll never hear another word about my mini-pans.

Good Saturday morning all. Currently 18°C, overcast and windy. The humidity is finally gone and so it feels cool walking in the wind today ... I had to wear a jacket for the first time in months! We had thunderstorms roll through yesterday, and RAIN finally some rain! The rain came in waves and so the ground was able to soak some up before the next round came. We so desperately needed rain, thank goodness it came at last! I may finally be able to plant all the perennials I have been keeping in their pots, as there is rain expected again in a few days. I made salsa yesterday and did my housework while it rained so today I can work outside while it is cool. Have a great day all :)

We are home now. Our son and his family came and picked us up in Milwaukee yesterday evening. We rode the train from Springfield to Chicago to Milwaukee. We stopped for supper on the way home and arrived home at 8 pm. We were in bed and asleep by 9 pm. Wannabe and I talked ourselves out every day. We got up in the mornings and started again. Those two weeks went really fast. Today we had to go do some grocery shopping and have lunch with our son and his family. Just got things put away and sat down at the computer with a glass of iced tea. Had hard rain on Friday night at Wannabe's but it's hot and dry here. dooley

Good Monday morning all. Currently 19°C and sunny. I am home today, we are getting a new furnace installed. The Farmers Almanac says we are going to have a wicked winter, and our old furnace gave up this spring. The new one will be much more energy efficient too. I am trying to get some floors cleaned upstairs while they are working down stairs, and when they are done I will clean the carpet downstairs. Not much of a day off, but I'll take it! Have a great day all :)

Good morning all. I can't put much stock in those old farmers for our weather forecast, they haven't been correct in years, if ever....they are the only ones who have a worse forecast record than some of our local weather people. We were supposed to have a very cold and wet winter last year... in reality we had about 5 days of 32 deg and no rain to speak of.
Speaking of rain, we had a trickle more over night, .05 in the gauge barely enough to get the leaves wet nevermind reaching the roots.
Our oldest grandson and his girlfriend are moving back down to Houston today, they have either enclosed vehicles or lots of tarps for covering things from the rain they will run into on the trip. We will wait until next weekend to take the sofa and chaise lounge down there in our truck since covering them would be impossible.

Good wet morning! We've had 1 1/2" of rain in the past three hours, and it's still coming down gently and soaking in. The young hens haven't had much experience with wet, and they think I'm doing something to bother them. Lots of dirty looks from the flock!
I have a pot of jambalaya on the stove, fragrancing the house, and otherwise am taking it easy today and enjoying the view of falling raindrops.
