Netty, with your green thumb and boundless energy, I don't know why anyone else bothers to make entries in the fall fair! You'll clean up with blue ribbons all over!
I planted out the broccoli starts and the green bean seeds today. Tomorrow is spinach and lettuces. I'm planting early in the morning so my perspiration doesn't drown the seedlings!

It wasn't a day for working outside here even if I had a garden space. It was cloudy with rain predicted. We went out anyway and rode the bus downtown and then back to Perkins where we stopped for lunch. When we came out we walked to the bus stop but it started to sprinkle rain so we decided to walk the 3 or 4 blocks to Walmart and catch the bus there instead of standing on the corner. Before we got to Walmart the sky started to send the rain instead of sprinkles. By the time we got to Walmart we were soaked through and dripping. But, the bus came past and stopped and picked us up. By the time we got to our stop, the sun was shining and no more rain. I'm sure we got our bus seats a bit wet. Clothes are now in the washer and will go into the dryer. Shoes are propped up to dry. Maybe more rain late this evening into tomorrow morning.

Good Saturday morning all. Currently 20°C and humid. A long day at the fair yesterday, but DD and I both won several classes for our flowers and veggies. I also did well in the canning class with my jams, jellies, and relishes. All in fun, and the money won is spent at the fair. Today, there is housework and grass cutting to be done, as well as canning. Such a busy time of the year! Have a great day all :)

Islandlife, I'll take it--just send that fog, mist and dank day down here!
Planted the leaf lettuces and spinach this morning and am hoping the predicted rain this evening arrives. The fall garden is in and I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the weather cooperates with not too hot temperatures and enough rain that I don't have to haul watering cans daily.
Husband is shredding the pasture, hopefully for the last time this year. He's so methodical that our pasture has nice straight mowing lines (I think he has a measuring stick with him to make sure the lines overlap just the right amount!).

Jane check the front of the mower, there are bound to be marks that he can see to keep the rows properly spaced!!
Good afternoon all. Hot and Dry here. Islandlife I will take all of your weather and trade you. We are looking at least two more weeks (if not more) of summer....temps in the mid-upper 90's with a threat of 100 deg on a couple of days.
I am so tired of summer, but not completely sure that Autumn will be any better temperature and rain wise.

I saw a weather map in the paper today that was for the whole country. It had areas that were laid out and marked "warmer than normal fall and winter." Most of the country was warmer than normal with just a few cool areas. No cold areas. dooley

Good Sunday morning all. Currently 20°C and sunny. Yesterday turned into a wet and windy day that felt a lot like fall. I managed to get some housework done, but it is never ending. Went out to the garden to see if there were any cherry tomatoes and came inside with half a 5 gallon bucket full of green beans! I'll have to do something with them today. Also have to go pick up my items and prize money from the fair this afternoon. Have a great day all :)

Good afternoon all. We have been to breakfast, Office Depot (dangerous place for a lover of office supplies), H Mart to pick up duck breasts for daughter and hubby for Thanksgiving dinner (cheaper now than they will be in a month), Kroger for a few things needed for the upcoming week and now home to stay cool and dry while outside is continuing to be muggy and hot summer weather.

It's still sunny and blue skies with temps in the upper 70's. Not so much wind today as yesterday. We went out for the Sunday papers and had a breakfast sandwich when we got home. We read the papers and I checked the computer and then decided to sew. Bobbin ran out of thread before I finished the first shopping bag. Filled the bobbin and the spool doesn't have enough thread to sew. Couldn't find another spool of white thread. Went and put white thread on the shopping list. I could sew with red thread but I don't feel like sewing now. dooley

Good Monday morning all. Currently 14°C and foggy. It is still dark except for the light of the big, beautiful, supermoon. Off to work, oh how I hate Monday's!
Have a great day all :)

Good morning all. Oh, shoot, I forgot about the full moon. Our forecast is for temps to hit 100 deg today and maybe tomorrow, no rain unless we get a pop-up shower later in the week but those are not very reliable.

I closed down my recycle list yesterday, the original owner started it in Nov 2003, he moved out of the country in 2008 and turned it over to me but like it's core members the list is aging out of usefulness as more and more locally run lists have developed over the years. It really was a sad time last evening when I locked it all down for good, but I have gotten several thank you notes from members who have been with us all those years so that helped.

Netty, congrats on the fair winnings. Any photos of the flowers to share?

Yes Netty, we'd love to see photos of your ribbons and prize winning entries!
Toni, a fellow gardener hereabouts swears by "planting by the moon." Any seed planted during the full moon will be "pulled" up sooner than one planted otherwise. It just happened that I planted lettuces and spinach during the full moon, so we'll see.
We get e-mail fliers from our local hardware store, and they have a special on snowblowers! Oh goody, now I won't have to sweep that nasty 1/8" of snow off the carport!

I love it when stores (especially chain stores with the buyer's office in northern part of the U.S.) start sending snowblowers, snow shovels and snow mobiles down here. You can really tell the intelligent levels of people in the corporate offices when they have absolutely no idea what will really be needed. Our Lowe's finally started keeping fans and air conditioners available year round, which is just as handy in the middle of January as in July.
