Good Sunday morning all. Currently 6°C and overcast. Looks like the rain will stay south of me today, which is typical as I planted my peas, onions, carrots and spinach yesterday with hopes it would all get watered in. I guess I'll have to hand water them today. I also got one of the two large back beds weeded and edged yesterday. One more to go, hopefully I can get that done today and then I can topdress both beds. All this free time this spring is really helping me get all my garden chores done! I am feeling very accomplished. Next I will move on to tree work ... lots that need attention.
Have a great day all :)

Oh wonderful, marvelous Monday! We have internet service again--the technician came this morning, installed a new "cantenna" (I loathe that stupid name) and we are back on line. I have so much catching up to do!
However, I did get the tomato/pepper patch weeded this morning, and put fresh bedding material in the next boxes. Just wanted to thank you all for the "likes" while I was gone, and hope I can continue to contribute my mite to the general conversation (cantenna willing!)

Good Wednesday morning all. Currently 5°C with strong easterly winds. There is rain in the forecast and we need it!
Today is Hubby's birthday. He said he didn't want any more birthdays because he didn't like getting old, so I didn't get him a gift. I will make him dinner of his choice, but that is all he's going to get from me haha
Have a great day all :)

Netty, please wish your husband a happy birthday from me, and tell him that birthdays don't mean you are getting old, they mean you are a survivor!
We had rain last night with lots of thunder and lightning. Since it's pretty soggy out there I'll clean house, make a pasta salad, and do "indoor things".

Netty, I forgot your husband and I share a date of birth.....many years apart. Tell him Happy Birthday for me.

Finally my gardens got rain last night, just over 1 inch but that is the most we have had in months....rain has been predicted so many times but never arrives here. There is a 'heat island' effect that sends hot air from downtown Dallas, that is directly south of us, up and over us and that sometimes keeps rain away while areas east and north of us get buckets of it.
It is also a lot cooler than recent days but the muck that I laughingly refer to as garden soil is too goopy to put plants in so that has to wait until tomorrow.

I will Toni! I'm glad you got the rain I sent you for your birthday! ;)
Good Thursday morning all. Currently 8°C and raining. Another day indoors, but that's ok as there is lots to clean.
Hoping for a better day tomorrow :)

Good Saturday morning all. Currently 8°C and sunny. It's going to be a beautiful day!
What a day yesterday was! Was woken up around 1:30am by my dog, who was obviously not himself. He couldn't settle, was obviously distraught and then started vomiting.
He was throwing up pieces of a knuckle bone he was given the previous day. A call to the vet at 4am and then a trip in at 10am for xrays. He had a one large piece of bone left in his intestines and a very irritated digestive system and throat. Vet gave him an anti nausea shot and said to call him back by 3pm if he was still vomiting and he would have had to do surgery. Took him home and he wouldn't get out of the car for over an hour haha Finally came out for a drink of water, and then a while later I gave him some hamburger and rice as suggested by the vet. He started perking up so we went for a little walk and he passed the last piece of bone, thank goodness. We had a good nights sleep and today his is back to his old self. No more knuckle bones for Sargent!
Today we will spend the day working outside and getting lots of fresh air and sunshine.
Have a good day all :)

Hey all. Been a minute since I was last here haha
Trying to decide if I want to attempt to venture out to buy plants and mulch. Our governor has slightly lifted some of his restrictions.

I played Paul Bunyon today, removing hackberry treelets from the flower beds. It is warm and sunny, so working outside was a pleasure, in spite of the rather stiff breeze. I'll make salmon croquettes for dinner, with a fresh lettuce salad from the garden.
Our hens are laying well, the vegetable gardens are coming on nicely, and I'm doing a happy dance almost every day!

Say Jane--- What or who is Paul Bunyon?

Today in the lottie we strawed the strawberries,
    zzz9abcd.jpg

The spuds that are just coming up needed earthing-up to protect from frost.
    zzz22.jpg

We watered them in and that water ought to keep the straw from blowing away.

    We schoffeled the greens bed.
    zzz.jpg

Of course on the home front we continue monitoring and hardening-off our plantlets .

The flower garden is beginning to look more gardeny all the time:

And that Wisteria is looking pretty good on the side and here it is climbing over the sitting pergola:

The weather has been good most of the time, today it is rainy but tomorrow we can venture out again. First to the store, then to the lottie.

Good Sunday morning all. Currently 12°C and overcast. It was sunny when I walked the dog, and so peaceful. I felt bad turning on music for part of my walk ( There is a Mama bear with 3 cubs in my neighborhood and I want them to hear me coming!) I cut back all the wild asparagus on my route today as it should start growing any time now. I can not wait for my first feast! I'll be out prepping the tomato rows today - I did one yesterday and hope to get the other 2 done today. I also want to start moving my seedlings outside to harden off. Lots to do!
Have a great day all :)
