Good Monday morning all. Currently -10°C and sunny.
I am messed up from the time change. I'm really not sure why we do that twice a year ... its been proven that more accidents happen after the time change. It always takes me 7-10 days to get back into my routine.
I've got two kinds of soaked beans on the stove and I'm going to can them up this morning. This afternoon, I've got to set up my seedling shelf as my tomatoes have germinated. I may also sow a few more things. Spring is in the air!
Have a great day all :)

Mondays are a fine day, if you are retired! It was chilly this morning, only 48 degrees, so I haven't done much outside. I did get some house cleaning done, and consoled the cats. They don't understand daylight savings time--they are getting fed when it's still dark out and they are sleepy! The hens I rousted and fed and watered, but they weren't ready to go out and start their day. Neither were we!
Netty, DST is idiotic in my opinion. Savings time? We get the same amount of daylight as always, and on a farm you start working later, and work during the hottest part of the day and evening. I hope you get back into your routine. I don't think our cats are going to adjust quickly . . . .

you'd be surprised with cats, ours rule the roost but its a case of staff and owner,s staff that's us, know our place in the hierarchy of things...They do go by light hours I know, but can be tempted to change to their needs...ours go walkies around the garden and then they get feed..so eager to go out whatever the light situation is...food then awaits them on there return... Good Tuesday morning all. Currently -4°C feeling more like -10 with the windchill. It's overcast and it looks like we might get rain.
Today I have an all day, online course to do via zoom. It's about customer excellence and I'm not sure why the gardener has to do it, but I'll do it. I am not happy about it though, after reading the course content. I'd rather just be out in the garden working, talking to the guests walking by about what I love to talk about ... the gardens! It's going to be a very long day.
Have a great day all :)

Good Wednesday morning all. Currently 0°C and overcast.
My meeting yesterday wasn't too bad, and I get to look forward to 3 more of them. Thursday is the next one, so I have today to do other things.
Long dog walk this morning and I picked up another 2 bags of garbage out of the ditches. Most of it was recyclable so it went into my blue box, a little was garbage, and some were "empties" that can be returned for money at the beer store.
This just got me to wondering how other places do things? In Ontario, we have special stores for alcohol and pay a deposit on the bottles and cans. When you take the 'empties' back you get money back. Does this happen everywhere?
Anyway, have a great day all :)

    Hiya Netty.
We have a system here whereby drink containers have a value on the bottles. Like plastic cola bottles, beer bottles and the like. We also have the system at our homes where we separate paper, plastic, aluminium, glass and of course green containers for garden refuse. Also there is the regular garbage.

Aside from that there is a thing where volunteers go out to seasides , woods and so forth to pick up other people’s discarded rubbish. What you are doing is a really good thing. It says a lot about you, but more about the litterers.

Happy St. Patrick's Day to you! My in-laws were "professionally Irish" so it is not my favorite holiday.
This afternoon I get my first Covid vaccine, so I am looking forward to two days of a sore arm. Husband had his a week ago and had a two day sore spot, so I'm basing my estimation on that.
Baked a double batch of cornbread this morning, cuddled cats (not at the same time so as not to add "fiber" to the cornbread), and am waiting anxiously for nights to warm up enough that I can take the seedlings out to start hardening off. I love springtime, but wish it would be a bit more regular in its habits!

Good Thursday morning all. Currently -2°C and overcast. I'm not sure where the week is going ... didn't realize it was already Thursday until I came back from my dog walk and the newspaper had been delivered! Yesterday I got to play out in my veggie garden for a while ... fixed the fence and cut back the asparagus. Then DH and I put the new arbor in place and cut away the old one, carefully moving the Wisteria Vine onto the new arbor and I tied it to secure it until it grew on tight. We had BBQ'd hamburgers for dinner after that. It was a good first day back in the garden.
This morning I have another online class for work, but it is only 3 hours this time. Maybe after that I'll be able to go back into the garden for a while.
Have a great day all :)

Ah Thursday--high winds, cool temperatures--kitchen day! I hope you all have a good Thursday.
No sore arm yet from the vaccination, and that means I can beat the stuffing out of no-knead bread dough. Cottage loaves are in my plans since they are so darned cute and bumpy on top. Folks love them!

Say Jane— what are “cottage loaves”?

Sjoerd, cottage loaves are small (about 8 inches long by 3 inches wide, and after rising, are about 9 inches high) and bumpy on top because they are "dumped" into a bread pan, neither shaped nor rolled out. The loaf is very light, and needs to be sliced before warming.
Next time I make them, I'll try to post a photo. Very easy to make, but take several hours for mixing and three rises.

Good Friday morning all. Currently -5°C and sunny. I picked up (what seems to be) my daily 2 bags of garbage out of the ditches on my dog walk this morning. While I was walking I got a message from my neighbor, scared to let her little dogs outside because there was a coyote in her yard early this morning. Sargent and I made a small detour and did a walk around her shed and small barn and all we found was a scared little rabbit. Perhaps the coyote was after the rabbit and was scared away by her husband when he left for work. Sargent was happy for a change of scenery and the neighbor was able to let her dogs out without fear.
Today I have to figure out where to put my plant shelf and grow lights so I can get my tomato seedlings off the kitchen island.
Have a great day all :)
