Good Wednesday morning all. Currently -9°C and overcast.
I was up bright and early to have my car looked at. I need an all wheel alignment, front struts and 2 new tires (cha ching!) The work will be done next week and I'm not impressed. I was looking to buy a newer vehicle but there seems to be a car shortage due to Covid so I I'll have to fix mine.
Have a great day all :)

It's nice to read the cheerful and industrious comments. It's fun to read them.

Today I cut my hair. I was doing that before the original shutdown anyway. I wouldn't know how to behave at a real barbershop any more LOL.

This is non-garden, but I like showing. Most of my sewing hobby is using a 1990s, analog (in other words, not computerized) Kenmore sewing machine. It's great, much less persnickety than my 2020 computerized Brother sewing machine. Yesterday I added a "new" one to the team. This is a Morse Fotomatic Zigzag, Japanese made machine. The inner frame is cast iron, the body is automotive enamel on steel.

This will take some time to learn to use and maintain. Fortunately, I have the manual on pdf (the Kenmore manual too). Test driving it, the sound and feel are just great.

Morse imported sewing machines that were made in Japanese factories - apparently, Toyota, Brother, Pine - then obliterated the source labeling and sold them as American machines. Eventually the FTC caught them, cracked down, and the company vanished.

They must have missed the label on this one, but it doesn't say whose factory it came from.

We got our Christmas tree today--a Frasier Fir that is so fragrant and so nicely shaped. It is inside in its stand, drinking and relaxing and will be decorated Saturday.
The news has been filled with gloom and doom about the lack of trees, the high cost, and if you can find one, you can't afford it. Well, horse hockey! There was a very good selection at a big box store, and the tree cost $3 more than last year. These so-called news announcers need to get a grip on reality!
Meanwhile, there is cookie dough chilling in the fridge, quiche dough doing the same, and I, too, as drinking and relaxing!

Good Friday morning all. Currently 1°C and overcast. We are headed into a warm up tomorrow with a high of 15°C!
You are onto something MG ... the news here has been full of gloom and doom as well. Yesterday I heard there was a shortage of Turkeys, yet when I went to the stores there were lots! only difference was the doubled price! Last week the news said that people should go and buy their holiday booze early as there was a shortage of that too. I talked to the lady in the LCBO (Liquor Control Board of Ontario - we can't buy adult beverages in just any store here, it must be though Government controlled stores) and she knew nothing about it and they had lots of stock! The media is horrible for these scare tactics these days and thats one of the reasons I no longer watch the news.
Not sure what we are doing today, but we do have to be at the rink at 5pm.
Have a great day all :)

Netty, thank you for the reassurance about perceived scaremongering. I thought I was being a bit over the top. We do watch the news--PBS Newshour and one local station for the "weather guess". Sometimes we watch a local station just to count the mispronounced words. It's rather like Jeopardy in reverse!
We went out and cleaned out the gardens of produce since frost is predicted for Saturday night. It's so nice to come in with a basket of green tomatoes, several bell peppers, and another basket filled with lettuce, and then admire our Christmas decorations!

That price gouging and similar techniques are going on over here as well. I simply will not buy some things that I normally would, not that I can’t afford it but because I do not want to give the businesses the exaggerated profit. I am afraid that I find this sort of profiteering a bit disgusting, especially at this time.
The radio and telly readers make you wonder if they aren’t exaggerating; and in a way, the result of this is working for the businesses, supporting the “buy now because....” story.
    Ach, what a shame.

Good Sunday morning all. Currently -4°C and sunny. Yesterday we had heavy rains and then soaring temperatures (up to 14°C!) and then we had sun, then a cold front come through and we had high winds (up to 110 km/hr) overnight and a little snow. All the seasons in one day!
After skating yesterday, my daughter and I went to a dealership to look at a car and take it for a test drive. Then we drove through 3 more dealerships and their lots were almost empty! Apparently another result of the pandemic and supply chain disruptions, and another reason for the rising prices.
I'm not sure what the plan is for today, DD wants to do some Christmas shopping.
Have a great day all :)

We got the predicted frost last night, but all the tender herbs were sheltered, as well as the cats. This Sunday has been sunny, but chilly. We stayed inside and decorated with our nativity scenes. We have collected them over the years, and have nativities from all over the world. Here's one from South America: church nativity.jpg
There is molasses crinkle cookie dough chilling in the refrigerator, and I'll be baking banana bread tomorrow.
Have I mentioned how much I love this season?

I like that nativity scene. My mate, Pim sells them in his shop here.

Good Monday morning all. Currently 3°C and sunny.
Today would have been my dads 95th birthday. I think that will be in the back of my mind all day today.
My daughter and I are going to make our Christmas baking list today. We just realized how close it is actually getting!
Have a great day all :)

Today was the next-to-last day of Christmas baking. Molasses crinkle cookies and banana nut bread while my husband was out foraging (grocery shopping for items not available locally). He came home with my favorite brand of ham for Christmas dinner! Love that man:heart::heart:.

It’ll be a good one now. It sounds like you two will eat good this holiday season. Did he have to drive all the way to VA?

Good Tuesday morning all. Currently -1°C and clear. Its another beautiful morning!
I've been noticing a rooster crowing from a distance recently, and I think I figured out where it is on my walk this morning. I sure do love the sound of the rooster crowing, reminds me why we moved to the country. When we looked at this house to buy it, there was a rooster crowing and that clinched the deal.
Going to look at another car today, and maybe take it for a test drive. The one we looked at the other day has sold so the hunt continues. I sure hate haggling with salesman!!
Have a great day all :)

Good morning to you! We have fog and intermittent drizzle. It's a good day for baking Spritz cookies and making some cranberry chutney.
Netty, I know what you mean about hearing chickens in the morning. We don't have a rooster, but across the road a rooster lives and crows. We enjoy hearing the hens clucking and cooing over their early morning treats.
I hope you find the car you want and can enjoy.
