Wednesday already? We have 11°C and rain. Our day is now 19 hrs 55 min. long, and the 4+ hours of night is more twilight than dark. Had a few hours of dry weather mid-day. I managed to clear a pile of twigs and branches that had been neglected since April. Had to go shopping for necesseties like printer ink, rose pruners, seeds, and some maintenance stuff for the bathroom. Also had to pop in and chat with a gardener at a plant nursery about some of their Hostas. I've fed birds, cats, and put out some food for the hedgehogs. They're late today. I'm still sorting stuff. Found a photo of a great-great-great-grandfather, a ditto grandmother, and a great-great-grandmother. Glad somebody had the wits to write their names on the back of the photos. Hope the ones ending their day had a nice one and the ones starting theirs will have a nice one.

Good Friday to you all, especially those of you looking forward to the weekend and being off work.
It's 9 a.m. and I have marinara sauce reducing on the stove--the Roma tomatoes have been good to us this year. The rest of the day will be tidying up the kitchen, watching Formula One practice in Montreal (what a gorgeous city!) and perhaps harvesting some herbs in late afternoon.

Good Saturday morning all. Currently just 10°C and very windy! Its been blowing since yesterday afternoon, and it was supposed to lesson overnight but it hasn't. Almost scared to check the garden this morning! Trying to change all my online accounts emails this morning and it is surprisingly tricky. Could take me all day to complete it all haha
Have a great day all :)

@marlingardener hubby said that a marmot made it's debut in the Montreal Formula One yesterday - and made it safely across the track. hahahaha Lucky little woodchuck.

Today is getting organized for a big city trip. Making lunches, packing Lambchop squeaky toy for Angus and his treats, making sure we have enough water along so that we don't have to drink the chlorinated city water ( that is something I can never get used to), and caring for the greenhouse so that it is fine for three days. The truck needs a good clean out of mud and dust because we well be spending at least 11 hours in it travelling, and a few more sitting. I'll stay in the truck with Angus while hubby has his appointment so that we don't have to use a very expensive and lengthy wait taxi service. It has been about four years since we've had an overnight trip. We usually try to shove it into a long day, but driving is more difficult now for hubby.

Angus has seen the red suitcase and is moping - he thinks we are going without him. I'm sure once he recognizes his blanket and toys in the truck his mood will improve. :)

Good Sunday morning all. Currently just 9°C and sunny.
Had a lovely surprise yesterday ... I was out cutting grass when suddenly I looked up and there was my grandsons! We had a great visit and I finally got to spend some time with my new granddaughter, who is usually sleeping lol
After they left, I got all the raised veggie beds weeded. It was a great day :)

Netty, that truly sounds like the greatest of days. Sometimes the best ones are not planned.

Good Wednesday morning all. Currently 30°C and humid. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for a thunderstorm tonight, we need some rain badly!
We went to watch my grandsons T-ball game last night. Nothing cuter than a bunch of 4 year olds learning to play baseball!
Tonight it is too stinkin hot to do anything, I even picked up dinner on the way home so I wouldn't have to cook.
Have a great evening all :)

Midsummer Eve, yay! I mean, we usually get the good summer weather after Midsummer Eve, so fingers crossed. Currently 12°C and raining. Forcast says dry and warmer this afternoon. We're going to the bonfire place to eat charred hot dogs. We'll probably avoid the soggy bread this year since it's not going to rain. That will make a nice change. I'm going to earn some housewife points by ironing tablecloths and a couple of shirts. After that I need to enter divorce negotiations between an ornamental grass and ordinary grass. Wish me luck! Enjoy your day all.

Gee Droopy, I hope that divorce is amicable! About ironing--I have an iron, somewhere around here . . . .
Watering plants early, then making more marinara sauce to stash in the freezer. It comes in so handy if we need a quick meal. It has been so hot here that even with the air conditioning (and boy does that feel good coming in from outside!) we are having cool meals of salads, tapas, and sandwiches.

Happy Thursday. Brrrr here. Woke up to 4 C. A large thunderstorm rolled through yesterday with some destructive hail. I heard rumbles and checked the radar in time to cover the beans, spinach, lettuce, squash, zuchinni, artichokes and strawberries. It's a good thing as it hammered hail for a good two minutes. Felt like forever. We don't normally get the huge stones that the prairies do, but a rain of marbles does some damage. The potatoes, took a hit but will come back. The apple trees look a bit buckshot and all blossom are gone. I lost about half of my blueberry blossoms, but some remain.

Twice I've lost my entire garden with the exception of root veggies coming back, so this was a lucky day.

I have a frost warning for tonight, so will cover everyone that is sensitive tonight. Then, those clearing skies bring a heat warning for the next week. From 4 C to 36 C, so I imagine we will experience some rare humidity. Unlike Netty - I've heard Ontario is very humid.

I'm slowly trying to get things done for my daughter and son in law coming next week. Currently removing a terrible floor polish that was not my normal brand from the bathroom floor. What a mess. Then a dry for a couple of days and repolish. It was really awful, turning white everytime it got damp. Not good on a black floor in a bathroom. ;-)

Mel, if you know the cold weather and frost warnings…will you cover things especially blueberry blossoms with fleece?

I'm afraid my covering abilities usually have to cover vegie crops that produce and keep our produce for the winter. I purchased a huge roll of remay as my goodbye to working gift to myself, especially after loosing my gardens.

I have to have some sacrifical lambs, which breaks my heart every time. I protected the easily bruised crops that we eat over summer, and then tried to protect the ones in bloom ( strawberries)...and then had to let go and hope for the others.

I've put the kids bed quilts over the blueberries tonight...low bush northern blueberries....so here is hoping

Friday! Hot day today, all of 24°C and clear. Summer has finally arrived. I'm pleased to announce the grass divorce proceedings were successful, and I now have a presentable ornamental grass again. I've lost count of the days. I've been one behind since Monday, but I've had Saturday all day today. Probably because we've got covid in the house and everybody are at home. Gonna pop a can of something and watch a film with the family. Hope your Friday is better than ours.

Oh Droopy, so sorry to hear covid hit your home. Please take care and do what you can to prevent its spread among family members.
Our Friday has been pretty good. I harvested herbs and hung some to dry, and minced and froze others. Husband moved the big pot of rosemary to a nicer spot, and we watered everything well. I made a pasta salad for tonight's dinner--it's still scorching hot and a warm meal just isn't appealing.
A cold salad, chilled Pinot Grigio, and watching the new PBS show Great American Recipes. Nice evening for us!
