Good Saturday afternoon all. Currently 30°C and sunny. The humidex makes it fell like 39°C, so I've been inside most of the day. I spend all day outside in the heat during the week, and I don't feel like doing it on the weekend too. I'm getting lots of housework done, as well as a bunch of stuff for the skating club as registration will be happening soon.
I did pick a big basket of beans this morning, and if its cooler tomorrow I'll can them up. Also bought a big slab of pork that I wanted to turn into pulled pork and can up as well, but its just too hot to be doing that today. I may slice up for steaks and freeze instead. Laundry is going and the vacuuming is done.
Have a great day all :)

Happy Monday everyone! I must admit I'm a bit upset with people who refer to a rainy day as "bad weather." We haven't had rain since the end of June, and are keeping plants alive with our harvested rainwater. Husband was cutting back the tomato plants and came in with three ripe tomatoes. Miraculous! This time of year, and with the heat, we don't get tomatoes.
Hope you all have a good week, and that we get some "bad weather".

Today has been a busy day. Up at 6 am to do the garden. Took vegies to the neighbour. Came home to wash and blanch beets, beans, and peas. Hubby and I picked raspberries which are on trays in the freezer. Quick lunch and then some home chores. Tomatoes are rendered down, and cukes are ready for pickles in the AM.

Just finished making the sauces for dinner on the outside stove. Chicken Cordon Bleu, Mushroom sherry sauce with wild Morels and fresh artichokes tonight. Off now to help Hubby clean out the boat for a hopeful fishing trip if the water is calm enough to allow it.

@marlingardener - I'm so sorry the drought you are experiencing is such a struggle. It is difficult to fathom the daily trials you are going through right now. I think any prolonged weather that interferes with the joy and living of our lives is bad weather to those who live it. Especially gardeners who love to garden. Rain, drought, heat, frost.....sometimes it is so darn frustrating. You certainly have your stretch of tough times right now, and I truly don't envy you. I wish I could send you some cool comfort. Hang in there.

Aside from the gardening chores, that meal of yours makes me wildly hungry. It sounds like you are quite the chef.

Not so sure about Chef...but I do love to cook. :) We live so so far from restaurants and fine dining, that try at home when we can. I've been meaning to ask Sjoerd...you mentioned a dish in a post with potatoes, cauliflower and curry/garam marsala? For the life of me I can't remember the name of it, but I did look it up at the time. I purchased a sweet potato last week( not a yam - a little more potato like if possible- because of my weird potato thing) and would like to try it while I have fresh cauliflower. If you wouldn't mind mentioning the name of the dish again Chef Sjoerd?

Good Wednesday afternoon all. Currently 26°C and sunny.
All the rains that were promised for the past 5 days haven't happened. We had one 5 minute downpour. At least it was enough to fill my rain barrels!
No fancy meals here ... I have some sausages out to grill for supper tonight.
Have a great night all :)

Saturday has been a banner day for wildlife here! First thing, while I was pouring coffee, we saw a young deer in the pasture. I was all for going to the feed store for deer kibble, but my husband nixed that. Feeding the hens and the cats is enough, he said.:setc_063:
Then we had a lot of birds at both the feeders and watering stations. Chickadees, a wood pecker, cardinals, swallows, and wrens.
Sometimes life here is so exciting I can hardly stand it!
Hope you all have an exciting and lovely day.

That is so wonderful @marlingardener - I can feel your joy. :flower::heart::flower: I was surprised that you have chickadees! What kind are they? do you get many? They overwinter here but disspear in the summer months.

Today is a cool 19 C after overnight lightening and thunderstorms. Not much rain, but the break in humidity is nice. I don't know how @Netty does the humidity I hear about in Ontario.

The giant cabbage is becoming cabbage rolls today. Some for us , some for a neighbour. I didn't have a pot big enough so we ended up putting it in a large tote and pouring boiling pots of water over it until the leaves loosened. What a hoot!

I have to make some pickles when those are done.

Bacon wrapped leaks in nutmeg bechamel for dinner tonight. Cabbage rolls tomorrow ( always taste better the next day).

And hopefully a better sleep tonight without all of the sky fireworks going on. :)

Good Sunday morning all. Currently 12°C and clear. Its going to be a perfect day ... high of 25°C and no humidity. @Melody Mc. when its hot and humid, I follow the sun and do the shady work, drink lots of water, and don't do anything too strenuous. When its hot and humid, there is usually a lot of watering involved in my day, and being wet helps lol
I've had tomatoes in crock pots overnight and today I'm going to put them through the food mill and can them up! I have 18 eggs boiling on the stove for a big batch of egg salad, and I have the laundry going. I also have to get skating registration posted for our Club and the pool vacuumed and the garden watered. If there is any time left I will relax a little!
Have a great day all :)

Good morning Netty. May I ask a little more about this process....do they reduce in the crock pot as well, or just cooked? It sounds like a time saver :)

It's Tuesday, and the wildlife continues to take over. My husband went out to water the apple trees and saw a young armadillo! How do you tell a young from an old armadillo? The old ones are laying by the side of the road, feet in the air (armadillos are slow to avoid traffic.)
I had another attack of "I must cook/bake" so I'm making baguettes to have as bruschetta. Only made one batch of dough since I have only one baguette pan.
Today and tomorrow will be hot, but a "cold front" is predicted for Thursday. Oh whoopee, we may get out of triple digits!
