Ohhhhhhhhhhhhh, there were GLASSES ! ?

 

Good Saturday morning all. Currently 11°C and sunny. This week has been unseasonably warm, we hit 30°C on Thursday!
I've had a busy week, getting back into the groove of working for a living and scheduling all the other stuff around it. I'm surprised that every inch of my body isn't sore this morning! haha
We've got a potluck luncheon and awards presentation to attend today, and then it will be home to get some of my own yard work done. I think I also need to up-pot my tomatoes.

Busy couple of days here on the farm. We are harvesting dead standing small trees along the 1 km driveway, instead of using the wood in the wood shed. We don't need a hot fire, just enough to keep the house above 14 C. I shovelled out the little trailer for the quad to help with those tasks. The snow is slowly receding, in the full sun areas especially. After tomorrow we are supposed to have seasonal spring warm weather in the mid teens, so I'm sure there will be a noticable difference.

 

Netty you are the Chaotic gardener… me too… chaotic is a good thing… in the garden too many gardens have their shrubs , trees along with perennials and annuals lined up like soldiers standing at attention . I like a lot of stand outs,techniques where plants are used to break up the flow giving the garden a visual point creating gardeners to take a fresh look at common plants.

Also..; ‘Every inch of my body is sore today’ . We get one sunny day and I march outside like a 20 year old attacking way to many garden chores for one day.

Good luck at the award ceremony? Assuming it’s for the garden…or …. maybe for you work ?

 

Mel sounds like you are anxious for the season the begin. Getting the odd chores outta the way. I similarly the same and love my trailer @ attach to my garden mower. Sometimes attach two trailers or use a rope to drag tree limbs to burn pile. That chore I haven’t started yet, have so much tree limbs will use the large tractor front bucket to pick up the pile and plop them down in my eco garden that I have growing in a ole burn pile spot. Lots of animals live there and great compost soil from the breakdown of yard debris. In summer all the limbs from trees, send up new sprouts also blooming cuts from shrubs / tree bloom.

It’s really a ‘Symbiotic Garden. The bees collect nectar and pollen from the plants and disperse it to others while taking what they need back to their hives for honey making. Bee hives located at the next farm over. As with the birds and other ground critters. Lots of blooms in summer and no water is needed. Everyone gets something out of it. It’s was grown quite by accident not burning the pile a couple of years and I noticed how well all the cuttings have thrived as well and other creatures. It’s a good thing and I don’t contribute to air pollution. So now I know where the squirrels bury all the hazel nuts and other bulbs that come up missing in spring.

 

Good Sunday morning all. Currently 13°C and sunny. This is the last day of these unseasonably warm temperatures. Tonight a cold front moves in, bringing rain and colder temperatures. The summer weather was nice while it lasted ... Tuesdays forecast has snow. I hope the plants aren't too confused! I was puttering in the greenhouse yesterday, tidying up and I put up the shade cloth and the automatic vent openers. I'd like to up pot my tomatoes today, however I'm not too sure that I want to keep them out there just yet.
The awards luncheon was great ... who doesn't love a pot luck lunch! DD won 2 awards - one for setting a good example and sportsmanship, and the other was a test stream award. We also won 'most involved skating family'. It felt good to be acknowledged for all the hard word we put in this skating year!

Netty, you certainly deserved your awards! How you find the time and energy to do all that you do, well it's admirable and amazing!
Today is a lazy day. I'm hanging some herbs to dry, making pot roast for dinner, and perhaps baking some herb bread. I must admit I'm a bit tired from reading all that Netty is doing . . . .

Netty - I think I almost felt a sigh over here after that last post. Congratulations on the awards and this seasons end, and congratulations to your daughter.

This morning was a busy cool blast with a wade into the creek. The beavers dropped some trees that snagged up where the intake goes for the pump. The water was only thigh deep where I had to go to push them off the snag and send them on their merry way down the current, but it was enough to make my feet throb within a minute or so. Hubby was there with a rope around my waste to stand gaurd. The creek is fed from mountain run off and every morning the slow part has a skim of ice on it. I see now why he won't let me go canoeing when the ice comes off of the lake until the world warms up. I slipped on a rock and had a dip to my armpits - no more argument from me about canoeing in the spring.

A mug of tea by the fire and a hot bath remedied everything. In a few more days that task would have been impossible with the freshet, and then with summer time low water it would have been a real pain with a chainsaw to clear it ( and not something one is supposed to do in a creek).

The rest of the day is home care, which feels a little anticlimactic. But cozy.

 

Creek - sounds like a very cold endeavor . Glad you got the pump free of debris.
Those beavers can be tricky to get rid of. When we had creek issues due to beavers in warmer weather I would ride my horse thru the creek while using a pole to open up clogs wearing fishermen water proof waders to enter the water. The current would get to strong to stand in once the clog was opened.

 

Heavens to Betsy! You sort of sound like a super hero. That was great work. It sounds like you had quite an exciting morning, if not bracing. Burrrrr. Good thing that your man had a rope on you.

 

I spooked a beaver last night with Angus and had a big tail slap. He wasn't sure what was happening. hahaha. The horse sounds like fun.

I had the water pole but had to abandon that idea. The debris was too tangled and the current too strong. I'm afraid waders are too dangerous in this creek, as are gum boots. If I slip and fall, they fill up and I would go with the current. The creek is well over my head in the middle and about 30 feet across, so running shoes it was. In hind sight I should have worn my felt bottom fly fishing boots - but things became unplanned exciting quickly when the pole didn't work. Once you are already wet, might as well get wetter.

With a bath towel for a cape and striped wooly socks.

It is a beautiful creek - I'll try to take some pictures soon. I'll have to remember to leave my camera by the door. I usually tip toe outside around 6 am with Angus while Hubby is in slumber land.
