@Netty moving perennials is definitely a lot of work. Your family is lucky that you are helping supply the greenery and the heavy job of lifting and dividing.

@Melody Mc. backing the trailer is my bane also. I always get a drive through. Although I have been practicing in the yard. Some day I will figure it out

 

Lifted a 50 pound hosta clump. Yee gads! It better be my favorite blue one… When I got it home I made it into multiple plants …. Cut it down to size Everything else was a breeze after taking care of that project.

 

This is very cool DHR Ducks in trees always seems like an odd thing and not something I've ever witnessed. I asked Hubby and he's seen them fly into trees but never nesting. That was a really special thing for you and your buddies to see And....you found the ball!

 

Good Saturday morning all. Currently 7°C and raining. Weatherman says it will rain for the next 4 days!
What a crazy week I just had ... my first full week back to work and it was exhausting! Add to the mix a couple of evenings at the rink, a room full of seedlings, an active dog and all my regular house chores ... my feet are killing me! According to my fitbit, on my busiest day I took 28,978 steps! I'm secretly kind of thankful for a weekend of rain as it will force me to rest a little bit. I would like to get all my seedlings out to the greenhouse for some up-potting now that the weather is a little warmer. Thats a nice sitting down kinda job haha
We are heading to watch an ice show this afternoon.

Good Sunday morning all. Currently 8°C and sunny. It was supposed to be a washout today, so I am thankful that it was sunny for my morning dogwalk. I see clouds in the distance, so it wont last long.
I had a rather lazy day yesterday, went to do a little shopping and see an ice show. I didn't even have to make dinner because DH decided on Chinese Food takeout for his birthday dinner! Funny thing is, I woke up today more stiff than ever! I think the trick is to keep moving haha
Hopefully I can get my seedlings potted up today

Sunday is a fun day! I watered our 4" pots of little plants, petted the cat, made a simple lunch thanks to the freezer, and don't have much planned for the rest of the day.
I must tell you all how much Garden Stew adds to my day. Seeing any alerts, reading about others' gardening plans and doings, getting ideas for cooking, planting, and reading and seeing pictures of pets--marvelously cheering! So thank you all and please keep up the good work!

 

Good morning/afternoon Netty.. any pics to share the ice show entertainment sounds wonderful. Stiffness is commonly a cycle from spring eagerness usually from a workout in the garden. I’m hoping in a few weeks I can lift a soda can ..everything is screaming at me too. A good hot soak in Epsom salts is in order.

marlingardener .. what a nice thing to say about Garden Stew …I agree.. we are all like a box of chocolates , ya never know what’s next…diversified agendas in the gardening world. Today is in the 50’s and clouds ready to rain. A good excuse to recover from over doing the past few days..OUCH…

 

That is sweet MG. You are such an important part of the postive vibe on the Stew.

Hubby and I are hunkered down for a while. The three days of record breaking highs is melting snow and has all of our little mountain streams going full out. The fires have disrupted the natural water shed, so the water is finding new and interesting paths to the lakes.

The main road is washed out about 20 km from here. The secondary road is very muddy and four wheel drive at best, so they are now building up and improving that road. The back logging road is still under two feet of snow. The loader comes tomorrow to the gravel pit here as long as they can pass the muddy road. If not they will start from the other side.

I've cancelled the Gas Guy that was coming, and this is why we are always prepared and stocked up. With no pressure to travel to town ( not much choice hahaha) I can take the time to hopefully get some things done in the yard and split some wood. We can get through if there is an emergency, but otherwise we'd rather not. We are expecting our creek to breach at the driveway today or tonight which does happen from time to time. We have another back way out if needed.

It's a beautiful sunny day and I'm excited to pot some pansies up today. Apparently voles prefer bachelor buttons, marigolds and cupid's dart. Finicky fellows. He is in vole heaven now, but one more to go.

 

Mel.. Your cheerful attitude with the difficult days coming with the possibility of floods and no gas for heat is admirable. Kudos to you. And your chopping wood …yikes. We also endure the same issues occasionally . Having wood for backup heat is handy for wood burning stove. legislatures are trying to end wood burning in our state .
But so far so good.

Woke to no water the well pump shut off so out trying to trouble shoot that issue. Stuff happens…..

 

It's May Day! No, this is not an SOS, but it is the first of May. There is an old tradition of making and giving May baskets. I made a small basket of yeast rolls, and included a bud vase of a rose and greenery to take to our neighbor. I put it on her doormat, rang the doorbell, and skedaddled (also part of the tradition, May baskets should be anonymous).

Good Monday evening all. Currently 8°C and overcast. We've had sun, rain, wind and hail today.
I wasn't going to go to work this morning because of the rain, but then the day looked like it was clearing so I went in. A busy morning, edging weeding and transplanting. Then in the afternoon I did some hedge trimming. I'm starting to get pretty good at it and I should be a pro by the time I do mine at home!
Yesterday, I got all my kale, cabbage and green onions potted up and out to the greenhouse. A few cooler nights yet, and then I'll move out the tomatoes.

@marlingardener - that is a very cool tradition. I've never heard of that before. That would be nice to start here.

@Netty - my tomatoes are looking out the window at the greenhouse wishing they could go....but like you ,not quite yet. The first full moon of May always brings below freezing at night here for a few nights, so hopefully soon.

9 C and overcast today, so a good day to go get a large fir tree that blew down a few km away. Not much traffic now with the road washout, so it is a quiet day to drag it out.

Strawberries will go in today, and some perrenials. The deer seem to be enjoying the green in the world now, and no longer eye balling my meager offerings.

Another busy day at work, edging and transplanting, and doing spring cleanup. I'm pooped!
