Same weather here like Jewel said, “Very nice day”. Good day for planting your bedding plants.

I’ve been tackling the #%#** traveling wild blackberries the birds planted. It’s like trying to tackle a greased pig. You can’t touch them or hold on to them … humongous thorns leave wounds forever…

The tire guy will be here to replace the tractor tire. It had a slash in the tire and tube…I’m a week behind with cutting the grass hay. Hoping to get some cut this evening. It’s gonna rain tomorrow…

That is a serious piece of equipment there, Pac. You be careful now, won’t you.

Glad it's fixed Pac. That's a nice sized mowing deck. Am I correct in understanding that you mow your hay pastures vs put up hay? We mow our pastures now to keep a green space, but don't farm them anymore. Just curious. :)

Fourth day of +30's here, but expecting rain for a few days. That will be a nice change. All of the seeds are in, and what brassica the vole left is planted and covered with netting.

The Road Repair foreman came out to see me today. They wouldn't cross the driveway so I waded across ( sheesh - must be made of sugar) . They gave some advice on where to place gravel and a culvert this summer to deal with the change in the flow of the creek. Hopefully it will crest in a week. The washed out road is open to single lane now so a trip to town was planned for next week.

We're both a little crispy from the unexpected heat, but a lot was done over the last few days. Bed will feel good tonight.

Good Saturday morning all. Currently 4°C and sunny. Today is going to be a beautiful day, and I am going to make the best of it! Lots to do in the yard ... prune fruit trees, trim the hedge, edge and weed the flower gardens, cut grass, trim etc I'm just going to putter through my list. Tomorrow its going to rain so I can do the other stuff!
Have a great day all :)

Oh Netty, isn't it wonderful to be out on a warm, sunny day messing about in the garden? I harvested more herbs today and hung some to dry and will chop and freeze the parsley. I found out, to my chagrin, that dried parsley tastes like grass!
Timi the cat helped me with the herb harvest. I seem to need a lot of supervision.
Hope you all have a sunny day, and no supervision!

It’s a bit soggy from the rain to mow now that the tractor is fixed. I will let the pastures dry out. I mow sections of the grass hay to dry out and our neighbor will come by and bale it up for us since they do there’s at the same time. I put it up in the barn for the horses. In the mean time the horses are fenced out of the green grass hay too much sugar for them , as they too will become sensitive to sugars in their diets. They have a corral and their own area and lot of trails around for exercise. We ride up thru the slipply slopes of the mountains since we are located at the top of a canyon. We are 1000’ feet higher than Portland. And have a very limited growing season july thru Sept.

A very rainy couple of days here, which is good. Everything was so dry. Fires are early this year with all of the dead grass and leaves, and no real foliage yet. The rain will go a long way to greening things up. Some of the daffodils opened today, and it is so nice to see some bits of colour.

@Pacnorwest - that's great that you can already get a cut of hay - you must get atleast a few cuts a year? All of that moisture you had seems to have your growing season seems to well underway long before July. Too bad it came as white moisture:confused:. We can cut mid August, and get one cut a year in our area and North. Ranchers usually have to feed out into end of May/early June. Our elevation is about 3600 ft ( you must be about 1050 ft...and zone 7?? - you have such lovely flowering bushes and trees. And GRAPES! ( I'm grape green with envy). Everyones elevation here is different just a drive way - it changes dramatically with the mountains.

I have a friend about 6 km away that lives in a valley surrounded by the most beautiful mountains. They have a cattle and hay ranch. Her daffodils come up three weeks before mine, and her lilacs open about two weeks before mine - so we have tea on her little deck and enjoy them. :flower: Then when hers are done, I cut some of mine for a vase for her to enjoy a little longer.

@Melody Mc. Sounds like you’re way up in the mountains. When I lived in Denver the mile high altitude really took time to get used to. Elevation does seem to affect garden plants . I was so surprised when moved here because I could grow so many more plants than Colorado.
I finally got the poor grapes trimmed back today. Ran out between the rain and sun poppin out. We have purple and green table grapes strawberries, blackberries, apples, and had peaches but they had a fungus and lost them so did the plums. I try not to plant anything that is not fungus resistant lostn a few maples too. As gardening goes it always a learning curve and there are so many hybrids that are better to grow and resistant to fungus, I can’t grow hybrid tea roses as much as I love them. Too much rain which spreads the fungus as well as insects. I do have other types of roses that are easier to manage.
Lilacs bloom in May here. My garden blooms about 2-3 weeks behind Portland. Lilacs usually have tiny flea insect larvae to contend with if it’s too warm.
It’s a blessing to share gardens with friends. Many garden club friends would come by to pick their fav flowers in august mostly dahlias I used to grow them in a 1/2 acre field.
Also before Covid we had a patch in the garden shared with garden city friends that didn’t have space to garden . They could come with there kids and grow veggies and plenty of horse recycled hay compost to embellish the soil. So many interesting gardeners in the garden club with so many plants to share and interesting projects . We work on several community projects as well as the Hwy and City beautification projects. Working with schools, teaching floral design and veggie gardening on school grounds. Since Covid we are hoping to get back on schedule with a lot of new projects next year.

Good Sunday morning all. Currently 8°C and cloudy. It was a beautiful sunny morning when I left for my dog walk, but the clouds have since rolled in, dampening my enthusiasm for the day. I had a very productive day yesterday - grass cut and trimmed, plants moved to the greenhouse, the big back flower garden edged and weeded, as well as a lovely load of mushroom compost delivered. It came late so I only got one wheelbarrow load moved. I had hoped to move lots today, but it looks like rain. Might be a good excuse to have a lazy day!
Have a great day all :)

Not so sunny Sunday! It is overcast today, and we are expecting rain. I picked more lettuce, since I didn't want to do it in a downpour later, and watered the pot plants, just in case our local weather forecasters might be wrong!
Formula 1 race in Miami is televised this afternoon, so I am planning a heated up left overs dinner.
Hope you all have a good day, with or without rain.

A relaxing day that feels like multiple days: laundry and breakfast houseplant assessments; trip into town for digging perennials and ice cream treat; visiting with neighbors and sharing and planting perennials then watering the plants; feeding the dogs and relaxing with the Stew. I was surprised to hear Cinco de Mayo came and went. Guess it’s hard for me to believe May is well on its way.

I agree Jewell - time is flying by at warp speed.

Hubby's B Day today, and we have a nice relaxing day planned. He also asked to help me get the greenhouse finally squared away. I'm grateful for that, and we will have fun together.

Last night was exciting as the creek did a second breach and went across the main access road in front of our area. The water is not as angry now with the rain gone, but it will probably be a week before it calms down. The emergency crews came out and we are just waiting to see if they will do the repairs. It is also the access road to their gravel pit that they are using to fix the roads from all of the washouts in our area...me thinks they will probably repair it soon ;)

Everything is lushing up and green with all of the rain. I think this is the fastest spring on record. :) Perhaps that is why time is flying by.

We sat with a calendar today and planned what must be done before the last week in May as life will have to hit pause for a couple of weeks. Somewhere in there I will have to remove winter dust bunnies and tidy things indoors. I don't seem capable of doing "outside" and "inside" at the same time anymore. I pick one. .....I think inside will wait :p:p I want to go play in the dirt. :)

Good Monday evening all. Currently 15°C and sunny. Finally a nice sunny day! I worked hard today, all by myself. Gosh it was so peaceful! And I got SO much done! Amazing how much a person can get done when they are left alone! And it made the day go so quickly! Came home and took the dog for a walk, and then got my new solar powered fans put in the greenhouse. Made a little 'table' for inside to put my soil mixing tub on and cleared some space for more plants. I'm almost out of room in there! I had a great day, and now its time to go relax. Have a good night all :)
