It’s so nice to see the bees out and about today while I was up on the roof , spotted a puddle of yellow /pollen water. There were dozens of bees gathering the water and legs full of pollen tackling their skills for gathering materials for building a wild bee hive.

marlingardener… planting trees is the backbone of any garden. Plant 30 trees is a lot and always rewarding. Living in central Texas is a nice area and shade is always welcome. My son lived in Austin and wow it gets hot and muggie in summers there and the mosquitos are huge like everything else there. We saw the bat cave at dusk and watched the huge exodus to gather insects and is the largest bat community in the US.

 

That was a nice scene with the bees. I miss mine very much.

 

Absolutely spectacular morning with blue skies and mild temperatures. Supposed to get warm today, hot by our standards at 80F. I miss having a plethora of native pollinators all around the yard. Eventually will have developed habitat for them. No one appears to keep honeybees in the neighborhood.

 

Good Friday morning to you all! It is overcast, and rain is predicted for all weekend, so we are hitting the yard and gardens to get what we can done. I'll be moving the basil cuttings into a larger pot and off the porch and into the herb bed (unintentional starts, but hey, as a very wise (?) woman said, "never too much basil.")
Sjoerd, what happened to your bees? I can sympathize with your sadness, no longer having them. I still miss ours, also.

Good Friday afternoon all. Currently 26°C and sunny. It turned out the be much warmer than expected, and I'm sunburnt. As predicted, I spent part of my day moving outdoor furniture, and taking down winter windows. I spent all afternoon cutting grass - sitting on the tractor not pushing a mower, so it was an easy afternoon. Now I'm home and I feel too tired to do anything! My dog is looking at me waiting for his walk and I'm just not ready to go, but I'll force myself. Then I can relax!

Netty… you sound beat, sunburned and a happy ending to your day your pup is full of loving gifts and hugs to scare…

It is tricky to go from cold weather then all of a sudden temps jump to way higher heat temps. No time to adjust to the heat… just in your face . I carry a portable pump mister to cool off. Water mist can cool your body temp down by 15-20 degrees. Really helps a lot as well as keeping hydrated.

 

Good Saturday morning all. Currently 11°C and sunny. I've been for my dog walk, and then came home to have a coffee and start my day slowly as everything is sore today. While I was waiting for the coffee, I got the laundry sorted and first load in the washer, the dishwasher filled, and my seedlings carried outside. Some slow start to my day!! I am now finally sitting down with a hot coffee, planning the rest of my day. I have grass to cut, a pile of mushroom compost to move, gardens to weed and edging to do, but I'm not going to rush to anything today. My fingers are sore - do any other gardeners get sore fingers after a long day of weeding?

Netty, sorry to hear about your sore fingers from weeding. I've found the best cure for garden soreness is a seat in the shade and a glass of chilled white wine. My fingers have never been so sore that I couldn't hold a glass of wine!
Just over an inch of rain last night, with today and tomorrow predicted to be wet, also. We looked up our plans for building an ark, just in case.

Went back to the referred link.. now I do remember about the bees. Any thing we put time effort study joy happiness we then create a strong bond. Even plants, fish, any thing that brings joy and happiness in our lives is hard to let go. When it became a major concern for the health of the hive to re-home them it was the best thing for them . It was heart breaking. I totally get it . You did a good thing and found the bees a good new home.

 

Good Sunday morning all. Currently 10°C and sunny. Happy Mothers Day to all the Moms out there
Had a great day yesterday ... got all the grass cut and trimmed and had moved the first wheelbarrow of compost, when all of a sudden drove in my daughter and family! They gave me a beautiful dahlia planter for an early mothers day gift and stayed for a nice visit! My son in law even moved about 10 loads of compost to the garden for me while I spent time with the grandkids! It will be hard to top that today

Finally spread the last of the mulch so it’s time to get more. Loving the heat, but getting chores done early so as not to over do.

Jewell, your idea of "Gardeners' Day" should be adopted worldwide. We'll just ignore the fact that every day is a gardener's day in the garden!
We are having rain--surprise! Our outdoor plans are on hold, again. I'm compensating by baking bread. If this rain keeps up and keeps me indoors, we may have to get another freezer. Husband is out in the workshop, laying the keel for our ark. The two of us, a cat, and five hens floating around over central Texas, which doesn't have a Mt. Ararat nor any elevation high enough to park an ark.
Hope you all have a good Sunday, and if you are afloat also, I'll tell my husband to make a bigger ark because we have guests coming!
