Sunny and comfortable at 70f/20c this afternoon. Will be cool tonight in the low 40sf/6c. Wish it would rain as it is incredibly dry.

Good Tuesday, and we are enjoying it to the hilt! Sunny, temps in the 70's but humid, and the grass and paths are soupy. Plans are to harvest herbs, check the tomatoes to see if I need to add ties, and give the hens a talking-to about laying eggs. Yes, they are elderly, but so are we and we still do our jobs!
Hope you all enjoy your day!

Today is a beautiful sunny but cool 18 C. I've been covering gardens the last two nights. Sunday night was a low of 0 with frost. Last night we saw -2. Thankfully everyone that likes the warm weather ( squash, corn, celery, strawberry blossoms, blueberry blossoms, and the greenhouse full of toms, cukes and peppers) all survived. The frost fabric ( aka remay, floating row cover, shade clothe) saved the day. I'm happy that I invested in the heavier weight of fabric. The greenhouse had everyone covered, as well as two heat lamps on the keep the frost out. It reached 2 C in there but no kill off thankfully.

It is a cool and wet with heavy dew morning to remove it all, hang it on the fence rails in the pasture to dry and tuck it away. One more night of frost/below freezing tonight and then we should be back to seasonal lows of 8 and 9 C.

We are expecting mid to high thirties for three days starting tomorrow. Today is irrigating gardens and lawns.

I walked to the creek to run the pump for irrigation...and my gas jug was leaking. I couldn't figure out why....until I found the tooth mark.:suspicious: Someone black and hairy thought they would sample my fuel can. I'm sure they didn't like the taste. Thankfully it was about 1/3 full instead of completely full. I hope he got a mouth full and will leave the pump alone. It was my favourite gas can - because it didn't leak when I poured it. o_OJerk. I'm hoping some Seal All will fix it up. That's a new one for me.

I told my daughter and she said "I hope it gave him gas. Or at least heart burn". Oh my hahahahaha

What a bear tale. Doesn’t it just infurriate you. Doesn’t that senseless destruction of property just drive you round the bend. Gurrr.

Oh BTW— great protective work on your plants.

Clay_22. The smoke from the Canadian fires is a strange occurrence. Last year we had similar fires storms near by. The smoky haze can make day time turn into a perpetual dusk cloud out the sun and the smoke and ash is not good . I had to block all the house vents to stop the smoke from coming inside the house.

Take care wear a mask when it’s smoky outside. It’s really a horrible firestorm they are contending with in the whole area. Stay safe ! We are just starting out in the new season called ‘ Fire Season ‘ in our area. I Try to keep the area around the house wet and water every night the whole garden.

I do worry about the pastures once the grass hay dries out it sometimes will be so unusually hot for weeks and the pastures turned to dust as the grass hay goes dormant. A very odd thing to see the whole pasture literally turn to dust from the high heat temps in the 100’s for weeks.

Good Wednesday afternoon all. Currently just 19°C and overcast. Or should I say smokey? The sky has been smoke filled all week from the forest fires in northern Ontario and Quebec, but the past few days have been very bad and it actually smells like burning pine trees out there. There is a special air quality statement from Environment Canada. Yesterday my eyes were irritated. Hope we get some rain soon!
Off to the rink! Have a great night all :)

@Netty or @Pacnorwest Do you know what exactly caused this fire ? I tried google and other search engines asking that question and the results go to articles about air quality or to environmentalist theories. Can't find a direct answer which I find to have peaked my curiosity more.

Clay_22 I found this article…it is such a shame, so sad . Hoping and praying the wildfire will stop soon.
    https://www.cbsnews.com/news/how-did-the-wildfires-in-canada-start-cause-nova-scotia-quebec/

How did the fires in Canada start?
Dry, hot weather also breeds more lightning. In a normal season, half of Canada's wildfires are started by lightning, but those fires account for more than 85% of wildfire destruction. The other half are human-caused.

In Quebec, for example, fires were sparked by lightning, but officials in Alberta have said that the cause of fires there is currently unknown. Elsewhere in the country, these fires have been human-caused in various ways from discarded cigarette butts to sparks from passing trains.
    It’s such a shame

Welcome. The smoke is not clearing . I see on the news how it’s effected the whole eastern part of the country. Effecting baseball pro games postpones any activity shut down in several states. This is so hard on anyone in those states. Stay safe ! Thinkin about ya..keep us posted on how you’re doing and coping with one of the worst fire storms in history.

Glad to hear your area is clearer today . Isn’t it amazing the small things like a beautiful blue sky we miss when it’s been missing for awhile.
